G80 trickle charger convenience setup

Hi guys,
Have a noob question. So I'm trying to set up my CTEK trickle charger with convience access setup on my G80. When I looked the ground post for negative attach point I see both of them are occupied by something else already. So is it okay I just put the negative on one of those post thats being occupied or should I look for other place?
Really appreciate for the help.

Any ground should be fine.
Where are you routing the connector to?
Are you planning on attaching it under the hood somewhere close to the windshield so you don't have to open the hood when charging?

Yes but the 2 negative ground posts nearby seem already being occupied by some wires. I'm not sure if I can put my negative connector together with those wires.

Late to the reply, but I put mine to the one closer to the Vin#.

Just wondering why you wouldn't connect directly to the battery in the trunk and keep the connector tucked in under the floorboard when not in use.

I believe I read/heard that they rather have you connect inside the engine bay so that the circuit can go through a form of ecu as a safety net in case of someone causing a reverse polarity or something stupid like that, while keeping your electronics (which is now, arguably 99% of a BMW) safe.

It's probably the IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor) they're referring to.

I suspect the cables you are seeing are ground connections for some of the electronics/engine.

I have noticed if you left your door opend for a period of time the hazard light will automatically turned on. Maybe just a safety feature. Just flip the light switch to turn it off.

dont think thats the issue,...the hazard light turns off after some time when the ctek is not connected/charging but when i connect it the hazard light stays on while charging.

I had it connected for an hour and it doesnt turn off. If the light just stays on whats the whole point of keeping it on a trickle charger, right? its just draining the power from the battery

all these new cars with technology and random electrical stuff is kinda of annoying hahaha

Hey, how did you attach the + end of the comfort connector? That terminal nut is Very tight, not sure how to unscrew and not cause damage.

Also, ctek has two sized connectors for these comfort cored, which should I buy?

Pretty sure the size was M8. I did not have an issue with the positive terminal. Just loosened it and unscrewed it then refitted.

Hope this helps.

You can absolutely stack rings on a post, as long as you get it good and tight.

Mine is connected directly to the battery. I back into the garage and it would be too much of a pain to connect under the hood.

I have one of these I want to hookup the same way, but how did you get the Positive Red Cap back on after connecting the red cable under there? Seems like the Red cable end is quite thick and prevents the cap from snapping in place, it is made very tight indeed.

Thanks

Got it, I tried that, but the red cap can't be put back in place. The cable end is pretty thick and prevents the cap from snapping back in place, it is pretty tightly made.

Strange. I did not have the issue. Maybe they change the size. Not sure.

You need to cut the back of the red cap. Don’t worry, it’s a $16 part. Just don’t drop it when trying to reinstall…Don’t ask me how I know.
