Is MY2019 safer than MY2018 ?
New member here. I am actively searching for pre-owned X5 as my next ride. I am most interested in the safety features as recently my driving ability had been impaired by a medical condition (can still drive, but can't see as well as before).
My budget is $50,000 and I can get a loaded MY2018 or a high milage MY2019. My must have options are: 1. driving assistance plus (2018) or professional package (2019) 2. parking assistance plus with 360 degree camera 3. any other helpful safety features My big questions are: A. What is the difference between 2018's driving assistance plus and 2019's driving assistance professional? B. Are there safety options available only in 2019 so it's worth it for me to max my budget to get 2019? Or 2018 has all the safety features of 2019? I tend to think newer models will have newer "tech". But I could be wrong so want to consult with those who know more about BMW here. I did some searches myself but was not able to get my answers. Thank you |

Welcome to the forum. The 2018's are a different model so you may need to ask for info in that forum. Just due to technology increases I would think it is safe to assume the G05s are safer. DAP is also way ahead of what you will find on the 2018's.

Thank you for the feedback. But is it okay to repeat the same thread in two different forums? Just want to make sure I am not breaking rules.

I looked at the IIHS site, seems like they prefer 2019

With a $50k budget, you might be able to score a 2020. From what I have seen, you should be able to get a low to mid mileage 2019. High mileage ones are in the low $40k in my area.

I am in North Carolina. Difficult to find something with your price point. It's either paying a higher price, or go 200 miles away to look at a car. Given the car market now, should I wait? My mechanic told me war on Ukraine had led to higher car prices because many European car parts are made in Ukraine.

My loaded '19 Msport is supposedly worth well above $50k. I keep getting offers from dealers and online sites. Prices are starting to settle down but it's a tough used car market right now.

Nearly all of the X-series are made in the USA. Yes, some parts are imported, but many are made here. The product lines made in Germany are the ones most affected by the war. I'm not saying none of the X-series made here are not impacted, but it's nowhere near as bad as those made in Germany.
