Wash in Winter in Chicago
I am aware that this is a sensitive subject where everyone has their opinion. This is not the thread to share it. Just wondering what most people do in Chicago (Western Burbs) to keep their car clean during the winter.
I am currently planning on washing every 2-3 weeks just to keep the salt off. I am currently looking for a good touch less carwash in the vicinity of my house (I live in Montgomery). I am aware of some people opinions on touchless car washes but this is what is going to be best for me. I dont want to wash my car in the garage or go to a bay to do it in the freezing cold. |

People have issues with touchless car washes?
I take my car to a trackless/touchless car wash in Elk Grove Village at a Mobil gas station. Does a great job for $5!

You know how the windows move down a bit when you open the door? If there's frozen water in there, they don't, and it won't let me shut my door all the way until they're unfrozen |

depends on where I am. Up here in Madison I go to the Octopus Car wash for a full service wash $15 every other week or so with a stop or two in between to a trackless, touchless wash.
When I'm home in Chicago, I only go to Platinum Car Wash in Morton Grove or Americas Best Car Wash on Milwaukee Ave in Mount Prospect right near Bucca Di Beppo. Both places are excellent, a little expensive compared to a gas station car wash but worth me not rashing up my rims on a track like I did this summer at a Mobil station. |

Well they use hot water and i only wash the car on the way to work. It also has a dryer like any other car wash. So most of the water comes off when you leave it. I have a heated garage there so i just park right away. Doesnt have a chance to freeze too badly.

Anyone know any good car wash locations downtown?
With all the snow coming down lately, our cars definitely aren't staying clean very long. |

Just take your car to a touchless wash then go home and use ONR. ONR is the greatest thing out there. It is not the big of a mess to wash it in your garage. It only requires 1-2 buckets. Check of the detailing section for more info. Once you use it, you will be hooked.

Here is a video on ONR. Best thing is two buckets. One with ONR and one with water. After you rinse the car with the ONR bucket, rinse your mitt with the water only bucket to get rid of the crap.

Thanks for the thoughts guys, I will take another look at some of the gas station car washes since there arnt a ton of nicer ones out by me. I will also look into giving ONR a try, a guy I work with that has an M3 swears by it.

^ DON'T take it to a gas station car wash, it will ruin your car. You have to take it to a touchless wash. One pass through a gas station car wash or any car wash that has brushes, will scratch the crap out of your car. You will ahve swirls all over the place. Buy ONR, it is $15.99 from detailed image. Buy a couple of microfiber drying towels and you will be set. Totally worth the investment.
