changing from modded e90 335i to 5 seies..not sure if I can do it
Initially I was to buy out the lease and keep the car as is. Then it changed to parting out the car and using the money towards credit cards and jumping into a pre-owned 545i or maybe a 550i. At first I was excited about getting into a bigger ( have one kid planning on another) more luxurious car, with more options but now im worried I will miss the rediculous power of my jb3 equipped car. Im wondering if I will regret it after its too late. Anyone out there do a similar switch or go from a 5 series to a 335i. I would love to hear some opinions from bmw freaks like me. thanks in advance for any input. btw..I cant afford a 535i so thats out of the question unfortunately.

I wish I could but they are 08's and still very pricey. 05 to 07 545i/550i have some really good deals out there.

that could be a nice change. They still are fast cars, especially the 550i. They would get eaten up by a modded 335i though. Its a really tough decision.

Before I test drove my 335, I test drove a 550 with m-sport package. I really liked the car. However, after I drove the 335 and knew what mods I was going to do to it, I made up my mind. My cost for my 335 with all mods was about the same as a two year old 550. I'm happy with my decision.
If I had kids though, I would have taken the 550. |

Space difference is noticeable. From an E39 (5er) to E90 (3er), the space difference is negligible. Go check out an E60. You will appreciate the added space, especially with family.

I just reread your first post. If your kids are small I would still consider a 3 series ok. Once they get bigger though I think you would like a 5. It looks like you also have an X5 though. If that's the case, why not keep your 3?

i got a 535i loaner car when mine went in for service. The car was quick but just didnt have the same feel as the coupe. i LOVE the 550's and m5's, i really considered leasing one of the 2 before i went for the 335. It just doesnt suite my age, the reason i decided against it along with other factors

my little guy is 2 now. We have an x5 but my wife drives that to work. I have to bring my son to daycare three times a week and we always do errands together on the offdays. I dont want my wife taking my car on her commute to work. too many miles. I have the 335i exactly the way I want it and the performance is phenominal..thats whats making this so hard.Im sure finding a 5 series with a stick will probably be difficult. I wish they had the same auto tranny of the 335.

I would stick with the 335 because it looks like you take care of the car, having it another 3 to 4 years by then you will own the car already...Just hope that nothing major happens mechanically to the car...If you do decide to buy the car and finance the payoff of the car, make sure you get extended warranty on it....Its not like you have only one car in the family which handles most of the family time drives...I would really keep it because going into a 5 series which you are already questioning is a bad move...It seems as though you really love your car, why sell it and get a 5 series when you already have a SUV in the household!!

I have both. Albeit the 335 is not modded at all, I prefer to drive it over the 550i. I like the toss-ability of the 3. But, I will admit, if a road trip was in order I would have to opt for the 550i. It has those ultra nice comfort seats. For a family the 5 is a great ride, but you will miss the 335.
