Scanner to diagnose transmission & ABS
I have a 2008 BMW 328i (with iDrive/navigation). I am planning to sell it soon, but it has some issues with DSC malfunction and a transmission malfunction as shown on the iDrive screen. A picture of the car on the service lift in the middle of the dashboard.
My wife told me when she stopped at the traffic light, the engine suddenly died. She restarted it and it seems to be okay. I checked the engine while it was running (cold engine at idle) I noticed that the idle wasn't very stable. It lasted maybe 3 or 4 seconds and ran just fine. No codes were thrown. No SES light. I am not sure exactly what's wrong with the car. I understand that I will need a scanner that can diagnose transmission & ABS, but I am planning to sell the car soon (probably next month). I have to fix the issues first before I can sell it. Is there a good scanner that will cover most makes & models, not just BMW cars? I have a Jeep, Chrysler, and a Ford. I want a good scanner that can diagnose engine codes, transmission, and ABS for most makes & models. Thanks -chazzz

Foxwell makes scanners that can do this. I have the NT-530, and it reads the transmission and ABS systems. You can add other makes, but you have to pay for each one. The scanner is about $200, IIRC. Free updates for life, and they update every few months.
