Just drove the new M! 335 owners opinion..

Hey there folks my car is going to be gone soon so i went out and drove a e92 M coupe 6 speed at the dealer today! I wanted to share my opinions with everyone...

First off let me share my background, i am currently driving a 07 335i coupe with a 6 speed tranny. My previous car was a 2003 bmw m3 coupe with smg.

First off the appearance of the M is BEAUTIFUL..nice and mean. Eventhough when i first saw the interlagous blue m3 first things that came in mind were it needs a drop some matt black grills and tint asap!!lol The car definately has some potential. My modded 335 looked like crap next to the M with the 19 inch wheels. Ok lets get off looks..

The salesmen let me take the car out for a spin. I was nervous, just like the first time i drove my e46 m3, a feeling i definately didnt get driving my 335. Anyways first thing i did getting into the car was turn EDC on(2 lights) and sport on. It started to jerk a little like my old e46 m and i got this face on . Driving the car i loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!

The steering was so direct and tight compared to my 335, and the thing handeled very veyr nice and neutral. My car has h and r race springs, and it definately handled better and made me more comfortable taking turns. The engine was so SMOOTH! Well until you get above 4k rpm then it started to scream! I did read plenty of 335 owners saying the lack of torque is noticable. I must admit it was compared to the 335 down low, but on top it was a completely different animal. It was quick very quick, and it did it very smoothly!

I decided to test the brakes. It braked so well! Much better then the 335 however maybe because it was new. I wish the exhaust noise was louder but its not that cant be worked around.

Anyways im seriously feel in love with the way it drove!! Definately going to pick one up asap! in a 6 speed.

to be honest a car has never excited me this much, i member one other time and that was when i got JIC coils on my e46m and it handeled so good!.

Overall on e90 post ive read many reviews and i think they are all on crack, the m3 is in a different league then the 335. Its like a tamed beast, a very civilized tamed beast....

Cant wait to get one put some matt black grills, tint, h and r sport springs...and call it a day

M

DCT is overrated, personally I'd go with the 6MT.... but that's me.

Seventh gear.

Actually, I'd like to try out a DCT sometime, too. Not to drift OT into a MT versus AT thread, but if I were to get any auto transmission, even a DCT, I'd worry that I would get bored of it.

Obviously, you know there is a lot of room for negotiation. Was it an "08 model year?

I will be in the same boat as you in about six months so I will look at the new M3 as well.

Very solid review, but I would love to hear from someone that is modded (JB3/V3) compare the acceleration/engine performance.

some journos who tested the M3 with DCT on track for full day in the end said they were frustrated with gearbox as it overheated frequiently. Just FYI. Probably will be fine for everyday drive but worht keeping in mind if you do indeed plan on tracking your M.

I think that no mattter what you do to 335, it won't be an M3. So with that said, good with buying it, if you can afford it, it makes sense to get it.

How was the ride? Was it a lot stiffer and harsher than the 335?

I will have you know, SIR, that I've been known to eat and drink while I'm driving, thankyouverymuch. All with a 6MT.

I didn't say it was easy or fun though.
