I need some help to make a decision on 22 vs 23 inch wheels in X7 2023.
I like 23 inch wheels but would like to know the pros and cons of going with 23 inch wheels especially the maintenance part. Would like to check if anyone took the delivery of the X7 with 23 inch wheels and how is the ride quality.
FYI- Opting for the luxury version and not the M Sport.

I was at the dealer last week and they had a unit that had the 23" and it looked awesome. With the smaller side wall the 23 will be stiffer IMO of a ride compared to the 22. Both 22/23 are staggered and have limited tire options. 23 more so. Some folks in the forum will point to addition options on the 22. However if you stay within what BMW had intended then the options are just as limited. If you are going to want to use it in cold weather safely and at least in snow you will need a winter setup. For those reasons I traded my 22s for a set of 21s and put all seasons on them so I would not need to deal with the hassle. I had 2 sets of wheels when I had my X5M and it was such a hassle. I know I am not going to track my car and/or drive in excess of 130 miles an hour so A/S is more than sufficient without the hassle of swapping out wheels.

If you are able to overlook the additional cost and bi annual wheel swap, then go for the 23s cause they do look awesome 😎

We have the 22's on our 23 X7. They are fairly wide and look good. The 23 inch wheels will look better, so if you go with the larger wheels get the tire and wheel insurance BMW offers.

Not sure who decided when that large wheels and skinny sidewall tires are the cool look, but since I can't see them while I'm driving, why should I care? While behind the wheel, I'm more concerned with driving comfort, and I'd prefer 20" wheels and taller tire sidewalls. 22" or 23" are probably fine if you're driving on fresh blacktop that hasn't had a chance to crack and be repaired, and if you regularly corner at intersections at 50 mph.

I have 22" on my X7 and 20" on my G550, and prefer the 20".

My CA discouraged me from getting the 23" due to lower supply / stock.

I originally ordered 22 RFT and was thinking of changing to 23" while I still was in preproduction.

Before you make a decision on either of those tire sizes I recommend you look at a few things.
1) availability of the tires
2) cost to replace. (I want to say the 23s are close to $4k to replace)
3) how long they last (ask your dealer for honest answers)

The 22s I know from experience only last max about 15k miles (unless you drive strictly hwy then maybe 18k) and they are NOT easy to get replacements for. And they are about $3k to replace. Thats a significant annual cost for a set of tires that don't really perform any better they just look better.

My advice (not that you asked) put the 21s on your build and get spacers for a staggered flush look. Then you can rotate and the cost of the tires is literally cut in half.

As others have stated; 23" wheels only have summer tire options, no all-seasons. Once the temp drops below 40 degrees the tire compound hardens up and you'll end up skidding around. Ask me how I know..

I have them on a 2023 X7 40i. I have 150 miles on the car and have a flat. These are not run flat tires. None of the dealers in Dallas have the tires in stock and are not sure when they will get them. I have the tire/wheel pkg so not a big deal, and will get a loan car, but who knows when they will be able to replace my flat tire.

I would choose the 22s if I could do it over again.

23inch probably look better, but options are limited if not none. Meaning stock is limited and hard to find if you are to replace.

22s are still not easy to find for staggered setup, but can hope to shop around. If you want square setup then several options open up.

Regardless of you get 22s or 23s.. get a 21 set for spare. That's going to ease your mind.

I have 22s and love them, but wouldn't lie, it is pain to keep up with the swap every season. I am excited to do it this year, who knows where that novelty will stand next year.

This reason alone is why you should not get the 23" tires. If you're on a road trip or even in your home city and get a flat, guess what you'll be on the space saver spare (if you have one) until you can get it repaired as you won't find a replacement. Hopefully you opted for the space saver spare and/or you can repair the tire. I've used the space saver spare on the X7 before...it's not a tire you want to be using long term or even going 55+ on the highway with.

Even 22's have limited availability. I've got 22's and already bought/received my 21" 754Ms with all seasons for winter and as a backup set.

Look great, but not very practical. Even if you live in Texas and won't need all seasons or winters, flats and tire damage beyond repair happens.

Another vote for 20 or 21”. I have 22s on my ‘22 for the summer and I much prefer the drive with the 20” winter setup. The ride is better and I don’t have to worry about curbs, etc. Finally, I find the truck looks much less gangsta with the ‘smaller’ rims - we are talking about 20” rims here, after all, not exactly small.

I downsized to 20" wheels - the money I save on tires more than pays my Nugenix and hair transplant expenses.

Definitely go 22". To replace tires on the 23s is ~$4k/set. Also the specific 23" size BMW chose is brand new and there really isn't any stock on the market for those size tires yet.

I went with 22inch 913M wheels with runflat summer tires from the factory and purchased a set of 21inch 752 wheels with winter tires for the winter. It is an expensive choice but I feel it is the best of both worlds and my wife loves both wheels designs - bicolor in the summer and all black in the winter. I stayed away from the 23s due to non runflat and very expensive to replace. Just my opinion.

I caution you on getting bigger wheels. The 22 inch tires are crazy expensive and are hard to find and are back ordered a lot of the time. I can only imagine the issues you will have on finding and the cost of 23 inch tires

I don't have the space saver spare. My sales rep told me, after the fact of course, that he would never order 23s given the lack of supply and replacing them is over 4K and the don't make a run flat so the best you can hope for is the spare and to find them in stock. I'm sure being a large city they will find them soon enough, and i'm in a new X5 loaner so don't really care that much, but if on a road trip....good luck with that.

I emailed my dealer yesterday on pricing for the 23" wheels alone because I want them for my 21 X7. I understand the cost of $4k to replace.

I built my X7 with 21" wheels/all season run flat tires for the winter/road trips. I purchased a set of 22" factory authentic BMW X5 wheels only off eBay for $2999. I ordered a set of Continental tires from Discount Tire for the factory staggered set up. I had the 22" tires installed and used them for two months and all was fine until I started reading about the tire shortages and the rear 315 being back ordered and extremely hard to find. So I then also read on this forum about owners going to a 285 40 22 all season square set up, so I went that route but went 285 instead of what the majority did with 285 40 or 305 40 because I still want the plush ride when going over bumps and wanted it to handle like a luxury vehicle instead of a performance suv. I mostly drive in comfort or eco pro mode.

So I now have the original 21" factory wheels and tires that it was built with only 3k mikes on them sitting in the basement and the 22" wheels are currently on the vehicle with the square 285 45 all season set up.

So adding 23" wheels and tires to the equation would give me a stable of options to switch out as needed in my my garage. I typically carry a minimum of two sets of wheels for each of my vehicles. I currently have three sets of wheels (18", 20" and 22") for my Polaris Slingshot.

I would love to have these 23" wheels but I'm sure my SA at the dealership will talk me out of it. He was the reason I built it with 21" wheels because he said he had customers coming in after 5 months pissed off because the service department just told them they need new tires after 5 months. After hearing this, I quickly changed to the 21" wheels for the build.

I've been buying, selling and swapping out wheels on many of my personal vehicles over the past 25 years. I know where to look and shop around for a good deal that not a scam and that I verify before purchasing. I drove 300 miles to meet a seller for a set of wheels and tires because they were brand new and I saved over 65% over purchasing them new.

I'm more into the look of the vehicle instead of the performance. So the 23" make since to me because I would have a couple of other options to place on the X7 to last me for years. I would only put the 23" wheels on for summer. My Slingshot is a daily driver all year as long as no snow on the ground, so my X7 stays parked in the garage the majority of the year.

Go with 21 - easy to maintain and plenty of options. I had staggered set-up once and never again. The rear tires wore out fast and needed frequent replacement only after 15-20 k mile every year or 2.

right now the 23" tires are not readily available. aside from pirelli, i dont believe anyone else is making them in the correct sizes. and all of pirellis production seems to be going into bmw's production.

the 22" contis have been backordered for close to a year now, same thing, looks like all of the production is going to the bmw factory, so if you have those and need to replace, your only option for a runflat is either running a mismatched set or swapping over to 22" pirellis. or go flats.
