Exclamation E90 Suspension Noise.....

Ok, I've read about this in a couple other threads, not sure if its the same noise I have. At about parking lot speeds, going over rough/uneven pavement, I hear this groan/creak coming from what sounds like the front right wheel, seems to happen more when its cold. Can also happen going in/out of my driveway.
I've had it into my BMW dealer twice about it. The first time, they put teflon tape around something, (didnt help), and today I took the foreman for a drive, an he told me, 'your gonna get that sound when its cold out'. Which I have a real problem with, for a car that cost around 40K.
I have a '06 325i, about 27K miles, with Sport Pkg., NO MODS.
Anyone have any idea what is causing this noise, so that while I have it at the shop they could really fix it this time.
Thanks.

yeah, that and the rattle from the rear. it's always the same story from the dealership, "this is common and expected on these cars", or "we didnt hear anything". it's such a hassle to have to prove an issue that it's not really worth persuing for me. now that i'm out of warranty, i'm not going to worry about it.

Noises are one of the most difficult problems to troubleshoot. It could be one of many different things. Sway bar bushing, spring seat, tension rod or control arm bushings, etc., etc. Most dealers don't have time to piddle around with tracking it down. Some techs have the experience to have run across the problem before and can fix it fast, but most don't, and warranty comp can be difficult. I would try and solve it myself.

Start by getting a good car wash and getting all the suspension components clean. Then drive in a parking lot with windows down so you can hear where it's coming from. Have friend drive it while you walk alongside. If it's in the suspension you should be able to get a rough location. Put it up on a lift and work the wheel up and down, squirt silicone/WD40 into sway bushing, top hat, etc one at a time and see what cures it. Once you have determined where/what the problem is, then take it in and have dealer fix it. If it is not a suspension joint, then you might be looking at body structure. That is tough. One thing you can do is reduce chassis/body flex by getting a front strut brace.

You might want to use this opportunity to replace your suspension with something more exciting -- like a BMW performance package. If you get aftermarket stuff the dealer will never help with creaks and groans.

OP, I don't know whether you came across the thread I previously posted this in but my car had a horrible crunching noise when driving the front wheels over speedbumps and dips. This is what was put down on paper (it did fix the problem btw):

"COMPLAINT: Check and report on crunching noise from front when going over speed bumps
CAUSE: Noise from front anti roll bar bushings
Puma measure - 5318539-01
CORRECTION: Replaced both front stabilizer bar bushings

PARTS - QTY:2 FP-Number:31-30-6-778-066 Description:Stabilizer Rubber M"

I just had my car in for this same issue last week and they said they could not see anything wrong and returned it without doing anything. I will ask about the anti roll bar bushings when I am in next, thanks for this info!

Many cases of sway bar bushing squeak can be fixed by lubing them yourself. Sometimes you need to tighten up the fitting around them.
