Will LCI be getting x7 gear selector?

Just saw review on the 2023 LCI X7. I would assume the LCI will inherit this too.

I sure as heck hope not
that looks ugly and for those that done use paddle shifters, it will be a nightmare... at least for me it will be.

This possibility is a big reason I rushed to get a 2023 45e. The benefit of the gear selector knob, esp in the 45e, is that you can quickly shift the knob sideways into sport mode (without looking down) if you want to accelerate quickly without waiting for the kick down. I do this sometimes at stop signs or on ramps.

I sometimes push the shifter to the left and manually shift between each gear. I don't see how I can do the same with this.

At this point, I think I'd be very surprised it they don't shift to the toggle switch with the G05/G06 LCI.

As far as manual shifting, I'd expect you'll only be able to do that with paddle shifters. (Which will raise the question: Will all configurations get paddle shifters or will some have no ability to shift manually?)

I am sure every model will inherit this just like iDrive 8. And the world will not end.

from drive, push down (towards the back of the car) to get the car into sport, then use the shift paddles. If you use the shift paddles in drive, it will eventually revert back to drive without input (shifting) after a set period of time

That's a fair point. Never thought of that. Sounds like you're right: those without the paddle shifters will not be able to shift manually.

All G05's have paddle shifters so it won't be a problem.

Except that it's not true. Mine doesn't, for example.

This is the one reason why I hated the RR Velar over the RR Sport. Hated not having the shifter on the RR Velar, was so happy to jump into the G05 after being in that car for 2.5 years.

I was referring to those available in the US although never heard of any without them.

Really? I've personally never seen an X5 (US or EU) without them. Is that an optional add-on?

Every G05 I have seen (in my location) has paddle shifter. But as someone mentioned, if you use paddle without putting shifter to M side, it is just a temporary override of the gears, in very short amount of time, the car will revert back to auto and control the shift.

I'm pretty sure they are moving the gear selector to iPhone and android. You just need to unlock the phone each time but at least you don't have all of that clutter and extra buttons in the center console. Also you can say " hey BMW" to shift to reverse, etc.

To get paddle shifters in my country I had to order a sport transmission as a prerequisite. And possibly another steering wheel but not sure about that - maybe that would be added automatically. But I didn't need it. It's not an expensive option but if you don't need something - it doesn't really matter if it's expensive or cheap.

Maybe all G05 in the US have them. No idea about that.

Anyone old enough to remember that episode of Friends when Chandler christened his 'third nipple' a nubbin?

That's what I think of when I see this snifter - a nubbin. It's like an oddly shaped, out of place nipple.

The lack of a traditional shifter is one of the reasons I've never seriously considered a GLE.

It looks like an oversized window switch.
