Temps Dropping: still wash yourself or bring it in?
I've been washing my base M3 myself since I picked it up in June. I didn't spring for PPF and want to avoid swirls from auto car washes.
I'm sure some of you are in the same boat. So, what does everyone do in the winter months? Bring it to a hand wash? Or continue to wash yourself? I'm in Bergen County, NJ, so if anyone has any suggestions for a "safe" car wash, let me know! thanks! |

I wash my cars all year round.
In winter I hook up my garden hose to my laundry faucet in my basement so i have warm water then I wear those thin winter gloves with extra big size rubber gloves over it so it can get wet. I never go through car washes. Machine or hand.

Always wash myself. Never anything else. I'm in Westchester, NY. My driveway gets afternoon sun so as long as temp is above 32 and sunny, I get a bucket of warm water and wash the cars. Don't think I've ever gone longer than a week in the winter where there wasn't at least one decent day to get a wash in.

I don't drive the G80 if there's salt on the road.
Summer or winter, I put the foam cannon on the pressure washer and give it a soak. Winter I won't go crazy because there are times you drive a mile and it gets dirty. Also I don't have ice skates to wear when the water freezes when I rinse the car. Ceramic coating helps. If I use a mitt I use 5 on the car, do a panel or two and switch it out. Car washes are a no no. $30 unlimited washes in January sound tempting, all I think about are those dirty rags...

I use handheld spray car washes with my own bucket (and some even use warm/hot water ) ...or I wash at my house. All year round. I never go through the automatic washes.

In the winter I usually wash at the self serve car wash in Bloomingdale NJ off 287N. In the spring/summer, wash in the driveway or I've taken it to Auto Polishing Center Center in Waldwick NJ. I sometimes also have my detailer stop by my house for a mini detail. I don't daily drive it so it doesn't get that dirty sitting in the garage.
