Let's see some iX modifications!

Hey all!

Please post any photos of modifications you've done to your iX or iX modifications you've seen elsewhere. Things like aftermarket wheels, wheel spacers, ride height lowering, reflector color changes, tint, wraps, etc. Would love to see them! I'm somewhat surprised that there still haven't been any iX wheel upgrades posted on any of the big aftermarket wheel companies (that I've found anyway)...

I'll start - sort of. This photo is a rendering from this Inside EVs page anticipating what an M version of the iX might look like. But it does look pretty amazing... I love how the bigger wheels and lower ride height give it more of that squat/bulldog look.

I've got a while until my iX arrives (estimated between April and August 2023) so I can't share any mod photos of mine for while, but I'll add to this thread if and when I find some photos of modded iXs out on the Interwebz...

Looking forward to seeing your photos!

Brian

What size widths and offsets did you go with? I'm in market right now and want some aftermarket 22's on my m60i and am possibly either going with Modulare Forged, HRE or a few others. Not sure what kind of stance the iX can accommodate. Would like something aggressive and won't be able to take it to my wheel shop in Dallas until I get back in town on Monday.

So I decided on 22x9.5" ET25 planning on running square 285/45R22 setup. You can go 10-11" width if you want but I went narrower as the wheels need more protection from my wife's parallel parking skills. They said that you can go staggered if you REALLY want as there's a ton of room in the back even accounting for RWS. If you're really going for stance and are willing to go at least +10 offset, I'm sure you can go with a 325/35R22 or 305/40R22 rear. The front really doesn't need more than a 285 width as you will get start to notice more understeer.

Forged wheels are generally the same if you go with major brands as long as they have your "style." It really depends on your discount to get the best deal.

ricerboi are you going to do (or have you done) any lowering on your iX (lowering links, Cete, etc.)?

Probably not, I need all the clearance I can get as I'm planning on running bigger diameter tires. I really enjoy the air suspension right now so I don't want to mess with it.

I am probably going with these in either 22 or 23” Picking up my iX on Monday and taking it by Wheel Experts on Monday. This is one of the owners cars and probably the same wheels I’ll end up going going with. Most likely an aggressive staggered setup

23" will look amazing but oh man...good luck with tires. Michelin has the PS4 SUV in 285/35R23 or if you wanna go 295/35R23 in Conti's. They're expensive but hey if you're throwing down $ for forged...

I know and probably why I will ultimately go with 22s unless my buddy wants to sell me his 23s off his Velar in the pics! 😄

Looks like Cete Automotive is officially offering their "active suspension control" system for the iX!

Video:

Site:
https://www.cete-automotive.de/en/ti...te-automotive/

For those unfamiliar with it (and non-German-speakers) - it's basically an electronic suspension height control system that allows you to make precise adjustments to each of the factory suspension height levels, via a smartphone app that connects to the system via Bluetooth. The system plugs in between the suspension height sensors/electronics and the factory wiring harness, so it can report suspension height settings differently as desired, to achieve different amounts of lowering (or raising). Kind of like dynamic, software-controlled "lowering links". Easy to reset to factory settings for service visits or totally dump the car into "show mode" if that's your thing. Kinda the ultimate option - but much pricier (probably at least $1200 from a US distributor/retailer) and more involved installation than simple lowering links.

I'm not sure I'll go this route with my iX but it's nice to know it's available! (or will be available I assume - I don't understand German so I don't actually know what's being said in the video/on that site).

Hey guys! I don't have any new photos of actual modified iX's to share, but since I still have many months to wait before I can modify and share photos of my iX, I did a little bit of Crude PhotoChopping™ from BMW's configurator renders to get some idea of what my eventual modified iX will look like.

What I plan to do - and attempted to show here:
  • Slight amount of lowering (maybe 1" down from stock/normal mode)
  • Wheel spacers to push the wheels out a bit, so they're just about flush with the fenders
  • Tint front windows to roughly match the already-tinted rear windows
  • Removal of the "iX" and "xDrive50" badges from the tailgate
  • Color-match the orange and red side reflectors

I dig it. Makes the wait that much harder haha.

I also discovered a black iX (sport, 22" wheels, etc. - might even be an M60) in my neighborhood just the other day, so that's exciting. Will try not to drive/walk past and gawk too much...

Finally, a lowered iX with some aftermarket wheels! Check out the photos below. This was posted on Facebook by Kean Suspensions, a Belgian automotive/suspension tuning company. The iX pictured is lowered using their lowering links and is fitted with BC Forged RZ20 monoblock wheels, in what appears to be a 23" diameter (can't tell for sure from photos and the FB post doesn't say). Very nice.

Looks really nice actually. Not very functional because those will 100% rub especially with the egregious body roll. If they went narrow enough for it not to rub, then the grip sucks. Those look like 24's. 23's obviously are "fun and expensive" to shop for tires, even with sponsored forged wheels.

Sorry, been really lazy and been lagging on this post. I picked up my forged daily 22" and spun-forged winter 20" wheels a couple weeks ago.

Specs:

Daily Wheels: Savini SV-72C 22x9.5 ET25 - Front Concave, Rear Deep Concave
Tires: Nitto NT421Q 285/45R22

Winter Wheels: Savini SV-F6 20x9 ET25
Tires: Toyo GSi6 LS 275/55R20

So I went about 3% taller with a more positive offset. The 285/45R22's won't rub on regular driving but only on pretty heavy bumps. Eventually I want to test out that air suspension control mod so I can set it at its highest setting for daily driving/practicality and lower for road trips/efficiency.

I'm at about 8500 miles/3 months, 2000 miles on the new wheels, with 5 LA/Vegas round trips, so here are my efficiency observations:

Stock Aero 21" wheels with Goodyear 255/50R21:

Daily Local/Freeway Mix: 2.7mi/kWh
Highway (Worst, Avg 85mph w/wind) 2.3mi/kWh
Highway (Best, Avg 77mph no wind): 2.6mi/kWh

Savini 22" non-aero with Nitto 285/45R22:

Daily Local/Freeway Mix: 2.5mi/kWh
Highway (Worst, Avg 85mph w/wind) 2.0mi/kWh
Highway (Best, Avg 77mph no wind): 2.3mi/kWh

This is with "lightweight" forged wheels, so I guess those ugly aero wheels are pretty functional.

Yes, I know the candy purple outer barrel isn't for everyone but my wife wanted it over red.

Oh the tint (on top of factory tint) is ceramic and:

Fronts: 30% VLT
Rears+Hatch: 15% VLT

hugo_nz, do you know if it's possible to change the air suspension height calibration via coding? So to do something like keep the "lift" mode at the factory setting but make the normal and sport/lowered each be about 1" lower than the factory settings. Of course there are so-called "lowering links" and add-on modules like the Cete Automotive ASC - each with their own pros & cons - but it would be super cool to be able to make some suspension height tweaks via coding...

Nope. None of those modules are accessible for coding
