New C63 AMG

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...hp-phev-system

Interesting stats…

670bhp
2100kg
2 litres 4 cylinder petrol engine but 479bhp
Battery has 8 mile range

Fascinating to see them go down a very different route to BMW and Audi.

It's amazing how much tech we are bringing to bear on our horseless carriages these days!

Garage List
2014 BMW F82 M4  [0.00]
2.1 tonnes!

Don't really get the hybrid approach especially with just 8 mile range by itself.

Well it's for the additional 200bhp isn't it.. pretty incredible getting 670bhp from a 2L engine.

I'm sure it will be a monster, looks good although not sold on the sad face grill.

Does feel like the soul has been removed from performance cars these days though, would prefer a 6.2L V8 that does 15mpg...

You missed off a key addition Tengo. 4matic or whatever Merc call it.

Once this thing gets off the line it's going to be a grad racing rocket.

Don't fancy stopping 2.1 tonnes on track but I don't know what's an F90 M5 these days, can't be far off.

0-60 in 3.0s possible on this C63?

A sad day..... I really liked my 2012 6.2 Coupe, it was a wallowy old Hector but it was always an event.

I am sure the new one will be faster, handle better and have a glitzy interior...... why is it I don't want one

Fill your boots guys while the 'Good Stuff' is still available at reasonable prices.

It's going to end up sounding like a McDonald's racer with only a 4 pot and an AMG exhaust lol.

yep, sad. But not quite as sad as Dodge trying to sell their EV with fake muscle car sound to their v8 fans. Next year is the last for their v8's

The whine of an original supercharged C63 always brings a tinge of envy when I hear it.

No mention of the fuel consumption, though I am curious as to whether it's significantly better than other cars with the same power.

Indeed so - I assume he's confusing it with the supercharged V8 that went in cars like the E55 and SL55?

The unique selling point of the C63 was the V8. It's why most people bought them.

I had one 4 years ago ...... brilliant fun and drama with silly loud gunshot pops and bangs if you put it in Sport+.

I can't see how the same customers are going to be so interested in this new one and throwing more power at it doesnt make up for the lack of V8. But it sounds like MB are forced into it due to emissions so it probably not through choice.

The only benefit I can see in the new one is 4WD as the old one can be a bit of a handful with 700Nm going through the rears.

It's put on a lot of weight and this will no doubt be mitigated by fitting rock hard suspension to make it handle and reduce body roll.

Then there is the price. This is from carwow:

"Mercedes are keeping quiet for now on the pricing of the new AMG C63, however you can bet that it’ll cost more than the previous generation. That car was £77,000, so something closer to £90,000 is likely."

This is interesting.....

"AMG claims 0-62mph happens in 3.4 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 174mph. Very fast, no doubt – but the current BMW M3 is just as quick, despite having ‘only’ 503bhp."

https://www.topgear.com/car-news/hyb...0-litre-hybrid

BMW is just as quick, cheaper, lighter, straight 6 and 4WD. No brainer really.

Or the C32, which was a 3.2L supercharged V6.

Just reading the sheer amount of tech that has gone into making a 4 pot acceptable is nuts. Taking the over all environmental cost of building and running a 2.1 high performance hybrid it can't be better than a modern v8 surely?
It's like the Teslas etc of this world fast as you like but no "want" factor let alone 100ks worth of want.

"No want factor" sums up pretty much all modern cars doesn't it. They have become tools now, there isn't much room left for people to actually enjoy them.

Totally agree....... in my experience it takes alot more than a low 0 to 60 time to make a car enjoyable...... born out by the fact I am using the Up far more than the Supra which is frankly a bit inert.
