Fuel Dripping

Hi

Today I noticed something very unusual.I filled the fuel tank right up to the top (you can actually see the fuel) and when I looked down on the floor was a little fuel puddle, there was a dripping for a while then stopped?!I looked under the car no visual damages. The fuel dripping was under the door next where you put a fuel in a car.

What cause a fuel leak? Is the any fuel overflow pipe?

Thanks

You shouldn't be topping off your vehicle. Reason you don't do that is because you need room for the vapor to expand inside the tank. If there are no room inside...well it's gonna find its way outside. This is probably normal. I'd stop topping off your tank to the top.

One thing that annoys the hell out of me...I have family in NJ and am often there to visit them. In NJ, filling your own gas tank is against the law. All stations are full-service. And, without fail, every gas station attendant tops off your tank to squeeze that extra 50-75 cents out of you, despite the common knowledge that topping off the tank isn't a good idea.

I always top off my vehicle beyond the point where the pump stops and I've never had a problem doing that.

Possibly it has been topped off way too much that it entered the overflow vent.

You should try filling up a '97 Z3 roadster my father used to have
No room to top it off...once it clicks, that's it. Any 10 cents more, it comes pouring out of fill tube.

I was driving through NJ few years ago and I fueled my car by myself. I'm from of Illinois and we do it on regular basis, it is not that scary. I did not want to wait for his majesty to stroll over at a gas station that had two attendants and 8 pumps full of cars. by the time they fueled one car I was done and on my way. Some states have the stupidest laws. I did get a lot of dirty looks but who cares.

Yeah here in NJ I'll jump out frequently and finish it myself..they hate it. These guys lean against the car, beat the door open with their fists..don't touch my car punk.

I agree. Of course, it's nice to have full service available at any gas station, especially in inclement weather conditions. And, ironically, gas is 20-30 cents cheaper per gallon once you cross the river from Philly into South Jersey.

But, 99% of the time I'd rather do it myself. Especially once I've got my new 335, I don't want anyone touching it other than myself unless absolutely necessary.
