2018 x3 30i G01 Emergency Call System Malfunction?

Hi all,

Yesterday, after shopping in the local mall, after started the x3 as usual,
the message "Energency Call System Malfunction" and a big exclamation
mark has shown up between the gauges, and on the iDrive system.

As the car is already 4.5 years old, the subscription is already expired; and
I don't use the system now. In addition, this won't affect the other functions of the car. Is it okay to ignore it, or to disable the function?

BTW, I am aware that this could be a dying battery issue, and there are YT videos which show how to pull out all the head liners near the tail ceiling to replace it, but it seems too much work, and this will probably happen again a few year later. So, I chose to ignore it.

Lastly, did you have this issue, and could you share your experience how to deal with it?

Thanks!

I suggest you check faults to see if you actually have TCB battery faults, or internal TCB faults. I've never seen a G01 TCB battery need to be replaced yet. I've only ever seen issues with water getting in at the shark fin and causing damage to TCB which causes SOS malfunction.

LOOK back - https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1499908

it will prevent you from ever resetting the brake or oil change. If your mic is not affected you are lucky

Could this be caused by the fact that I did not renew the SOS subscription and/or BMW ConnectedDrive subscription?

No. You won't have a malfunction from an expired subscription. Check faults.

I check the x3 GPS, and I still have the car location pointer showing
in the display.

So, the telemetry unit should still be functioning.

I will get an OBD scanner to see what's going on before heading
to the dealer.
