I finally did a dyno

I did a mustang dyno here in Vegas today. I need to get the file on disk but these were the results. It was 50 degrees here but he didn't use a fan at all with the two runs I did. I used 91 Octane on a Dinan stage 3 tune setup and got 335rwhp and 360rwtq. That is pretty reasonable I guess. How much of a difference would a fan make? I would think that even though it was colder out the fact that we were halfway in a building and no windflow at all was going over the FMIC says bad things for temps of the air. I should have asked him to redo with the fan.

Nice numbers w/o a fan on 91 octane. Why no fan? Ask for runs 3 more free runs with a fan.

you NEED fan. My only dyno runs for my car were without a fan as well, I just don't feel they are accurate that way at all. Heatsoak is going to happen very very quickly, even with your upgraded intercooler.

Do it again with a fan and dynojet since that's what seems to be the most popular one. I'm guessing you'll hit 350 whp with a fan and better gas. I wonder if adding 100 octane will make a significant difference with the flash.

The octane should make a difference as will the fan is my take. I couldn't believe they didn't need it! He said something about there wouldn't be much heat soak since it was cooler out. I thought, "Well, there is no air across the intercooler so that has to hurt the car's temps."

I have a baseline idea now but that is what I got. Not too bad I guess.

Really, I just don't want to turn into one of those Dyno guys. I have an idea now but if I race someone I would rather have a low number on the dyno than a high number. I am pretty sure the car is closer to 350rwhp since they didn't even use a fan but then again it is just a printout.

I went to the track before I dyno'd my car. I believe other people should do the same. I spent twice the money to put my car on the track as to do a dyno. I got a lot more fun out of the track though.

Do you know what your boost with the Dinan stage 3 flash is peaking at?

I wonder if he adjusted the readings for the altitude?

I have heard its 14.5 before. I know the max I saw for my stage 2 on the gauge was 13.2. With the colder weather, I have not managed anything past 12.7

So you had the stage 2 first, how much did Dinan charge to upgrade to stage 3? I hope not another $2K, but you had to upgrade your intercooler right?

In your opinion does the car feel a lot faster with the stage 3 flash? I've also heard that it peaks in the 14's, but haven't been able to confirm it. I'm currently running the stage 2 and it also peaked in the 13's, but the boost is never consistent. I wonder if Dinan designed it this way on purpose? My main question is please compare/constrast stage 2 vs. stage 3 flash.. much appreciated.

Low numbers for a stg 3?

How much is a stg 3 from Dinan? Like 2k+?

Plus, their warranty doesnt cover anything if something goes wrong...

OP, you should of gotten a V3 or JB3 and save that money for somthing else in my opinion.

this isnt about a v3 or jb3, the OP still has a valid warranty unlike any other owner who owns a v3 or jb3 and the dealer knows about it, its just not BMW's warranty.

No I don't have stage 3 and its not just $2K more. Its more like 2.5 times that much more. If you are expoecting twice the kick, it isn't. This is more about diminishing returns. You are only pushing about 1.5psi more with stage 3 and it tracks the output graph of what you have now, but you get a bit more, and it dies less uptop. Don't expect anything dramatic. Its a safe conservative tune with a warranty. IMHO stage 2 is the best Dinan bang for the buck though. The piggybacks are apparently pushing a lot more than stage 3, and might be a significant kick in the pants. PM me in two weeks I'll tell you what I observe. I will have a chance to sample the competition then.

He had no fan, so you know you are reading implied numbers that may or may not give an accurate representation.

Sorry for the late response. I am still working on scanning my sheets. The dyno I went to is run by Dave on Torrey Pines and Sahara. He does lots of Supras over there and he did one right after my car. Look, I am fine with the way the car runs. I think the dyno was a bit off due to the fans but it won't change my outlook on the car. I have taken it to the track in Pahrump and had lots of fun. I will bet you that a JB3/Procede will NOT be that much different in driving compared to my current situation. I know this because I have driven my friends car and it quite honestly is hard to distinguish the difference.

The stage 3 tune is not very noticeable since I had the FMIC and Stage 2 done prior to this.

BTW, a procede V3 will run you close to 1500 with all the options. That runs boost up to 15psi. Mine runs up to 14 or so. Is the extra 1 psi of boost worth no warranty? Not for me. I think my car will not get smoked by those running piggbacks. The others might barely win but it will be a drivers race. Really, the turbo swap is what you should save your money for if you are serious about tuning. THAT is next down the road.

My friend your information is wrong/outdated. The PROcede V3 does not cost $1500 with all options. Its $900 and change

and you can buy JB3 for under $500 with a current sale price.

OP, the torque number is pretty impressive. That could possibly mean 280rwt which would basically be on par with the proceed and jb3 crowd.
