Trunk-Open Reminder

Can you guys think of any good reason why the reminder comes on only after the car starts moving...this has happened to me on many occasions where I somehow inadvertantly opened the trunk as I unlocked the car: I get into the car, start the car, put seatbelt on, then as soon as I pull off the reminder comes on, so I have to find a place to park and get out of the car to close the trunk...

I guess it's like this: Why does the seatbelt alarm come on once you're moving and not while its in park?
The car isn't moving, so it doesnt see why it needs to have you close your trunk becuase you or another person might be using it. I think the alarm sounds once you're moving because it knows that no one should be back there once the car moves.

Nr!qUe, not sure what made you laugh so hard, I sure hope you're not older than 12. For your information, the seatbelt reminder does come on as soon as you start the car then it goes away, and comes back when the car reaches certain speed. The trunk reminder does not come on initially but only after the car is moving. My point is that every other car I've seen will alert you visually and/or audibly that the trunk is open as soon as you start the car, which makes sense. It's not the end of the world, it's a matter of logic convenience.

The door ajar reminder operates the same way....agreed that it makes no sense.

1000000+ the doors and trunk opperate the same way. it was not like this in the e46. what a retarded idea to make them work after you are moving.

Well, every other car I've ever driven that has a door ajar or trunk ajar indicator lights up when it something is not closed. That way, before you drive off, you know something is not secured. I live in a downtown area, so once I start off, it's difficult to find a place to safely stop, step outside, and resecure the door or trunk.

If the car is standing still, there is nothing wrong with having an indicator letting you know the door or trunk is ajar. You'll likely resecure it before driving off or turn off the car because you're parking, turning off the light. I think it's too late once you start driving off.

Does that logic make sense?

Yeah, I hate driving down the street, only to have to find a safe place to pull over, stop, take off my seatbelt, and secure the trunk. Maybe Germans don't have as high an incidence of ADHD as we do, lol. I know it's my fault, but let me know before I launch.

Agreed this is stupid. Add this to the list -- trunk open and door ajar warning should light sooner, auto wiper LED is not visible, window controls too far away (fixed in the 09 refresh?). Otherwise, the ergonomics get a thumbs up from me.
