same thing happened to my e90 years back. i could only conclude that those dipshit pushcart vendors possibly wiped me with their carts. oh, it happened to me in hell's kitchen.

What ever it was, it seems like it was with a lot of force.

Maybe you had the stereo blasting and caught something like a bollard or something and didnt hear it.

Trailer hitch?

It looks like the scratch is higher on one side and lower on the other. Which is weird?

Way too deep and large to be vandalism from something in someone hand. And again the height differences would be unusual for vandalism.

Hit and run uninsured motorist coverage is your friend in this day and age of idiot, cowardly and dishonest people. You won't pay a thing and your insurance can't go up.

Do you have any shots from further away so we can see how it was parked?
Could someone have possibly backed into it at an angle?
Is it in a position where a truck might drive by or back into it?

I know you didn't want to hear him make that gladiator joke but that is such an unusual scratch....

i know it was meant as a joke (chill out btw) but there may be some truth to the roman chariot w/spikes statement in that whichever car/truck/trailer did it probably had something sticking out of the side that caused the damage. best of luck with everything!

As upsetting as it is, that kind of damage is totally repairable. A good body shop (and there are ceratinly a lot of them around here) will make the car look the same as it did the day you got it.

Edit: This does not appear to me to be vandalism.

Also, where did this happen, in Freeport?

Looks like someone got too close to your car and sidewiped you, probably a truck or some large vehicle.
