I'm currently on a 1-month trial of "Drive Recorder", which allows manual/auto recording of incidents. I think Drive Recorder is only available if you opted for the Parking Assistance Package.

A typical dashcam records everything in 1 minutes segments and locks a segment if triggered to prevent it from being overwritten. The other 1 minute video segments remain available for review until overwritten. Hence you can export video footage from trips or incidents caught on camera that didn't involve your vehicle. A parking mode is often available that captures video of events when the car is off and parked.
BMW Drive Recorder only actually "records" up to 20 seconds before and after it is triggered. Hence, unless triggered there is no other video recorded, and only up to 10 triggered videos can be stored. Videos can be exported and unlike typical dashcams, Driver Recorder can cover the front, back, and sides, but the system is off when the car is off, so no parking mode. I don't see why the BMW Advanced Car Eye 3.0 wouldn't be available in the USA, as it's made for BMW by Thinkware so has all the usual global approvals. |

I do have the driving recorder on my car, but was heard this thing does not work very well, so I got a separate dash cam for front and rear recording.
