Testing JB+ on the new sedan
Did some baseline tests on the new 335I sedan. As the car is still pretty new (148 miles), it is still fairly tight, and the numbers are not that great, but still in the ball-park. In my past experience the cars seem to perform quite a bit better once they have about 7000 miles on them, with traps a good 1-1.5mph better than when they are brand new. The car is totally stock, 91 octane, with no optimization done at all for good ¼ mile Ets. Stock RFTs set at 36psi. The important thing here is to look at the delta between the baseline-tuned numbers.
The totally stock runs: Near sea level, 52F. 91 Octane Shell. Run#1 13.5 @ 103.1mph (2.0 sec 60’ time) Run #2 13.5 @ 103.6 mph. (2.0 sec 60’ time.) 0-60mph: 4.9 seconds, 0-100mph: 12.5 seconds Run#3 13.5 @ 103.6mph (2.0 sec 60’ time) Identical Times! 0-60 mph: 4.9 seconds 0-100 mph: 12.5 seconds. AFTER INSTALLING JB+. 50F, 91 Octane Shell. Same day, same test section. Run#1 13.2 @ 108.1 mph (2.1 sec 60’ time). More wheelspin! 0-60mph 4.7 seconds, 0-100mph: 11.4 seconds. Run#2 13.1 @ 108.1 mph (2.0 sec 60’ time). 0-60 mph: 4.6 seconds, 0-100 mph: 11.2 seconds. (1.3 seconds quicker than stock!) Run#3 13.1 @ 108.0 mph (2.0 sec 60’ time) 0-60 mph: 4.6 seconds, 0-100 mph: 11.2 seconds. So with better traction, (lower tire pressure or after market tires), and more adaptation, this would be capable of hitting the 12’s without a doubt. And once the car has a few more miles on it, that alone might do it. Pretty impressive for a non-intrusive plug-in solution. And with a solid 4.5mph gain, that would equate to about a 40-45hp gain. And this is just a preliminary Beta unit with more user adjustable features planned in the future. Terry says this particular unit is on the lowest 91 octane setting. FYI: I didn’t notice a drastic improvement at first. But later on when I drove around in the day, the car seemed to get faster and faster. I am a firm believer you can’t just get instant adaptation when changing tunes on this car. It’s amazing how cheap it is to get this much horsepower. 40+ hp for $300-$400? I don’t know what Terry’s final pricing will be, but this is incredibly cheap compared to how much it would cost to get this instant much HP gain on previous vehicles that I have modded. Perhaps with 93 octane or better, the increases would be even more.

JB+
It doesn't require unscrewing or disassembly of anything. Just unplug and plug in connectors. (ie, SSTT). 0-60 times are more detrimentally affected by traction when you increase the HP. I would say with DRs you will be getting 12.9 ETs and 0-60 in about 4.4 seconds.

Is that your Racelogic of Terry's? I borrowed it from Terry once before and loved the thing.

It will be interesting to see how this product plays out. I understand the targeted market being folks not ready to get into the ecu, but it seems like a step backward when you can get the excellent JB3 for similar $.
It looks similar in gains to the jb2 which can be picked up a very low cost at this point. If it comes in at a price point closer to $250 instead of $300-$400, I would say it would be more attractive. |

And hey, a 40-50hp gain from just plugging in something is nothing to sneeze about. I know a lot of people who are on the fence about doing something as drastic as most current tunes require, would jump all over this in a second! Heck, you could stick one of these on someone's car as a joke, without them even knowing you did it, and then listening to them say "damn my car has been running good lately!"

For those who are not interested in all out drag strip numbers, but want a nice improvement in everday drivability and the instant potential to run 12 second qtr miles, this may be the simplist and ideal tuning solution.

40+RWHP on the lowest setting? That's kinda impressive... look forward to hearing more info on this thing.

Hopefully someone with more miles on their car, and 93 octane can test it on some higher settings. If I can get my wheel lock off, and get some DRs on, I really want to show how easily this will get into the 12's.

Thanks for posting - very interesting. I'd be curious to know what the #s look like on a AWD car, since I have a 2009 335i X-Drive on order now.
Any observations about changes in noise level, or engine or shifting smoothness? Can you comment on what parameters the device seems to affect, and what can reasonably be expected in terms of impact on engine and transmission longevity? Threads about the SSTT state that it merely adjusts boost within a range that the factory has already allowed for under certain altitude or ambient air temp conditions, so that it would be reasonable (I assume) to anticipate no adverse effects on the car's components. Is the JB+ similarly constrained in not exceeding the car's designed performance parameters? |

The price point is yet to be determined, but my guess its going to be between the JB2 and the JB3 Pin-out, which means 229 - 379, so my guess it will be around 275-325.
Again these are my guesses Mike |
