New Jag XF-S 3.0 Diesel
Now this looks a lot more like how it should have been released. If this engine was available at launch i would have brought one for sure.

It's about time that engine was put in the XF. I've been lucky enough to be a passenger in the new 5ltr Supercharged XF, and it's a fantastic car. M5's will be eaten for breakfast

Err, having driven an M5 on numerous occasions and being a passenger in the XF, I concur that the M5 will be pushed very hard.
The XF rides better and handles better than the M5 on anything other than billiard table smooth roads. They have the same horsepower and the XF has more torque. Whilst it lacks the soundtrack of the V10 and maybe that last 5% of "je ne sais quoi" that us BMW drivers like, I can see why the XF would be preferred by many people in the market for an M5, E63, Masser Quattroporte etc. Try one before you dismiss it a viable alternative. They'll be out in the spring. Matt |

I cant see it seeing off a E60 M5 in a straightline or round the twisties.

I`d just buy a B5S, if the M5 felt too sporty. |

This is an interesting engine...
As I unterstood the text, it uses a larger turbo with variable geometry which works all the time (from idle to max rpm), and a smaller turbo with fixed geometry which works only when revs exceed 2800 rpm. So, above 2800 rpm, both turbos are working. This is quite a bit different than the setup on our 3.0 biturbo engines. Will this engine be better than BMW's 3.0 biturbo? Can't wait to find out.... |
