who knows how to jack up the car (i know sounds stupid)

I purchased this neat anodized aluminium quick lift floor car jack in red/alu colours at a local supermarket for € 100. Two- three pulls on the (extended) 4ft lever or so and that side of the car/tyre is up. I use it mainly to go to the DIY car wash, take the wheels off, and clean them & brakes much better and more easily.

Who knows if you can lift the car by just putting the jack's platform under one of the 4 'plastic' car jack lift points, or does one need an insert to go within the plastic square? Sofar I've used a hard wood insert, but that takes bit more time in lifting up the car (and i keep loosing this bit).

thanks,

i use a wood insert also. in the front of the car between both wheels closer the the front you should see a metal square which can be used as a jack point. you can jack both front wheels at once. to be safe id put jack stands under the plastic jack spots on both sides of the car

Use a block of wood, a trimmed hockey puck or a custom jack block adapter (I don't think Josh is making these anymore but just so you know what I mean: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42387).

I would only use the plastic jack points with jackstands with a jackpoint adapter. The perimeter sides of the jack point sockets don't look like they were designed to take any load at all. The load has to be inside the rectangle without loading the plastic sides I think...

Thanks GregL, will see if i can do someting similar/ My jack is similar to the red/alu one (but colours are just the other way around). It has a 3" dia platform with rubber insert. Will see what i can do by fixing an alu 'insert' into it, or come up with a 3" alu insert as per Josh.

PS do like the wide tyres on the blue jack :-)

risky but I was jacking up the car without the adapter. No problems.
I later got me one of those Josh adapters and have been using it since.
