Xi really kills the fun on the 3 series. If The 3 series all drove like a Xi, I wouldnt even consider getting this car at the price. The Rwd is what makes this car shine.

Aw jeez. Here we go again.
What did you do in your "test drive" of an XI to determine it kills the fun? Did you take it on a track? |

ask any non noob if they can feel the difference right away from a rwd car and a awd car.
Its not about breaking the rear loose. Its the feeling that comes from the rear and the directional support that is handled throught the front of the car. big big difference my friends. much more precision and fun is carried out by driving a rwd car then a awd. if you cant tell the difference its your lost, not mine |

He might be a dbag, but he's not wrong. They feel like different cars and when casually driven around town.

Living in Boston I would never get an Xi, but I would get one for my wife. To each his own. I found that snows and RWD do the job just fine for me. That is not to say that it's appropriate for everyone in Boston. We all know the pros and cons of both systems so the argument is what are more important to you. You should be honest with yourself and and get the car that will not leave you stranded. Driving in snow is much like other things is an acquired skill. If roadways to your house or work have an uphill section then the Xi may be more important to you than someone who does not have that situation. I don't care how well you drive, you stop on an uphill powdery snow in a RWD, you are not going anywhere. You stop on an uphill section with snow covering a thin layer of ice, your Xi, or Hummer H1 for that matter isn't going anywhere either.

"Living in Boston I would never get an Xi,"
NEVER!? I thought your answer would be always. I would never get it if I lived in Florida or SOCAL. Given all the snow here, I find the xi to be extremely helpful! Just my .02. Cheers! OP

You missed my point, "I" wouldn't, and not suggesting "you" shouldn't either.

Living in TX makes me not really care about AWD but honestly, if i were to buy a car with AWD, i would buy a Quattro.
Just my 0.02 as BMW always feels RWD for me. Feels like they were trying to plug a gap in the market. |
