Another HPFP failure!
I thought this was fixed but my 2008 335i had the HPFP fail today. I drove the 10 miles to work this morning and the engine was fine. When I pushed the start button at noon it took a long time to crank and then ran rough. The idrive said, "Engine Malfunction Reduced Power." I drove straight to my dealer. They just called to say the HPFP failed and that they are replacing it and the car should be ready at six tonight. The car has 9500 miles and was a 1/2008 build.
Thanks for listening. Mark

I'm on my 3rd fuel pump. I hope they fix this problem as well.

Mine is at Irvine BMW right now on it's THIRD visit since Nov. I bought the car in April 2008. I've been all over the internet and found hundreds of other cases. I'm thinking of enacting the lemon and possibly a class action lawsuit. Twice the car just dies when I'm driving on the freeway; nearly got ran over by a semi once.
Here's where I found the other cases: http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/bmw...J7C7DMQJ7ERRUF |

Sorry yo hear, but glad they got a new one in for ya so quickly. A year or so ago it was a 30-60 day wait!
Anyone ever notice if any E93 convertibles have had HPFP failure? I don't remember seeing any here on e90post. I know they're built at a different factory but I doubt that has anything to do with it. Anyway, I'm holding my breath since mine is a 05/07 Build.

Thanks I hope the new pump lasts more than 10K miles! I was impressed by my dealer having the part and getting it fixed in 5 hours. BMW needs to solve this once and for all! Does anyone have a guess what it would cost to replace the HPFP without the warranty?
Thanks!

They allegedly have a new fuel pump design along with a new p/n. This is my third one and has yet to fail, although every time I get even a slightly long crank I get nervous.
I did speak to an indie shop about it just bsing and he mentioned that the company that manufactures the FPs for BMW has been having problems recently with other parts they make for BMW and may be getting fired soon. I can imagine BMW is less than pleased with having to replace several thousand FP's. Plus I almost feel bad for the SAs as I am a pretty level headed guy and was still pretty fired up when it went the second time. I can only imagine dealing with some of the customers they do. |

Well its a 40K-50K car so owners have a reason to expect better. I will be watching the car closely as I approach my warranty limit and if it seems like trouble, I will ditch and probably go to the competition next time. Had too many issues with mine.

Isn't there a Lemon Law in most states that basically says a car is a lemon if the car is "broken" for more than three times with the same problem??? I pretty sure we have sometime like that in Massachusetts.

Mine failed last week with the exact same symptoms, however, the car wont stay running at all. It just shuts off after about 5 seconds of really rough idle. Only tried it once after the whole reduced power warning on the idrive. Reduced power is a huge understatement... it should just say no power, because it wont even run.
I havent had it towed in yet though, havent had time since it'll be my first visit to the local bmw service dept, and I want to go in and meet my advisor and stuff the first time instead of just sending the poor fubar'd fuel pumped car on its way. I hope they have the parts in stock considering this is quite the epidemic lately.

I agree. The ironic thing is that for a number of makes, the more expensive car is not usually the most reliable. My japanese-made daily driver has over 160K miles in 9 years and i've only followed the factory service schedule. Nothing else has gone wrong. Gotta love that from a $16K vehicle...
