Another HPFP Failure
got in my car after school today and when i started it i got the dreaded long crank. i turned it off and started it agian and it was fine. drove home and something just didnt feel right, but i couldnt put my finger on it. my friend anna came over and went to the mall to eat. on the highway over there there was a lot of construction so when the car started shaking i figured it was the road. then when i went to pass someone and got no power i knew something was wrong. so i exited and then it got bad, no power and really bad shaking. i managed to get almost to the dealer 10 miles away but when i stopped at a red light 2 blocks from the dealer the car just shut off. i got it going again and got us safe to the dealer.
then anna and i had to wait an hour for my dad to get off a conference call and come over form his office to get me a loaner car [bc im 17]. he got there with 2 mins to spare before the enterprise office closed and luckily i managed to get a BMW. its a JB on Beige Leather E90 328i. Only options are auto trans, leather, and power seats. no premium even though most loaners do have it. definetly has a more compliant ride than my 335 sport. but the trade off is that a turn i usually take at 65 in my car could only be taken at 50 in the 328. hopefully they have the part in stock i have my car back tomorrow as my SSTT comes tomorrow. edit: forgot to mention that the car had its fuel pump changed during the recall before it was CPOd and then bought by me. So now im on to HPFP #3...

If they had a recall, why can't they get this right. This isn't a rocket science part. For the amount of problems they are having, they should fix this already.

This won't be much comfort, but I talked at length to a German service rep when I picked up my car three weeks ago. He told me they (BMW, not the dealership) have gone after the supplier "very aggressively" (his words) to find a permanent fix.
I was assured mine wouldn't fail... I have faith, but keep my ADAC (German AAA) card in the glove. Assuming they have fixed the problem, you gotta wonder what the bean-counters are telling management... Recall ALL the older pumps sitting out there in dealerships all over the world and retrofit the defective parts with the fix, or continue to install them until the stocks are depleted on the basis that SOME of them will work... If you think that's far-fetched, just remember FORD decided to pay off the lawsuits caused by the exploding Pinto gas tanks because they figured that would be cheaper than redesigning/replacing them. First corporation in US history to be prosecuted for murder. Hope nobody gets whacked on the freeway when their HPFP fails. |
