M550 or i4 M50

Hey all
Need some advice from you all M550 owners. I have a 2019 M550 with almost all the options you could think but the i4 M50 I ordered last summer just arrived (wasn’t expecting it until summer with all the delays).
I have had the M550 for four months only and it is CPO until December.
Now I am torn between should I switch to i4 or keep the M550. The sound of V8 and the drive is out of this world. Can’t keep both.
What will you do ?

I will not own an electric car. I can't imagine that the steering or handling is as nice as the M550.

The i4 will give you all the new tech but your M550 will keep delivering the true ultimate driving experience, imo.
I find electric vehicles very inconvenient in regards to charging, upkeep and resale value.
I personally will get an electric car no earlier that 2030+. I'm honestly waiting on hydrogen fueled vehicles and hope they hurry up the development of those.
Having said that, it's still your own choice to make. My advice for you is to sit in the new car, see how it feels, how it drives, make the call and don't look back.

You won't find anyone recommending an i4 here...
That being said, I don't think current infra and battery tech are good enough. I would buy an EV from BMW in five years. If you want efficiency I'd wait for the M560e that will be coming out in 2024?

Maybe introduced in 2024 for the 2025 model year.

I bet the i4 is a really cool car. I just feel like there will plenty of time for electric cars. Can’t say the same for the 500+ horsepower V8 muscle.

all comes down to if you are a car guy or not. the I4 is fast, heavy and planted, the torque is too linear for my taste. its like driving a golf cart. I believe all EVs drive like this and I do not appreciate it. take it for a extended test drive and then sleep on it. all comes down to your taste.

just realized you mentioned you had the m550 for only 4 months. if you are having fun with it hold onto it. with the market somewhat coming down there will be plenty of i4s whether you ordered one or not.

If it were me, I'd keep the M550i and wait for the Neue Klasse BMW BEVs (2025 onwards). That way you get to enjoy the V8 for a few years with plenty of BEVs in the future.

Not to ding any of the current BMW BEVs, but personally I would be interested in models that are built ground up with electric in mind, not those that are accommodated onto the ICE architecture.

Very easy for me - the M550 over the golf cart.

What are your impressions? Since you have both to compare? Personally I’m interested in seeing the upcoming 5 series hybrid and electric models.

I drove an i4, and it's a nice car. A little austere for the price, but great torque and decent handling.

As a pure commuter, I think it would be fine. But I don't see using an EV for long trips (i.e. more than a single charge) in most parts of the USA. So that kills it for me.

Stay with the M550. The infrastructure for EV just is not there yet and the implementation is so new you will find yourself a Guineapig.
