Does anyone have list of what is due at each service?

Our 3 year, 36k maintenance just ran out and I need another service in a few thousand miles. Anyone know what service besides oil changes are due at each interval? We are approaching 40k miles and the service indicator says another service
is due in 3k miles.

https://www.bmwusa.com/explore/bmw-v...nty-books.html

Select your vehicle, download the maintenance PDF, scroll about halfway down and there's a huge multi-page table showing what needs to be done at every interval.

It hasn't been updated for the 2023 X7. And for some reason only the 2020 and 2021 versions have X7 listed in them.

2020/2021 booklets have a column for all X cars except the true M versions. They call out one X7-specific thing: replace the 3rd row cabin air filter every 2nd service.

2019 has a column for "X series except M and diesel" but it doesn't list the X7-specific 3rd row air filter thing. 2022 only has info for 7er, 8er, M5, M8, X1, and X2.

It should be fine to use the 2020/2021 schedules on a 2019 or 2022 X7.

I wanted to save a copy of the maintenance schedule so I could refer to it later, and the PDF formatting sucks, so here's a transcription of all the maintenance that needs to be done on the car.

The BMW schedule for engine & cabin air filter replacement is on the longer end compared to what I've seen other manufacturers recommend. So you may want to accelerate those a bit, especially if you live in a dusty environment (like Colorado). Air filters are cheap and easy to replace.

Anyway, here's the BMW schedule:

The CBS system will indicate when any of these 4 services are due:
1) General vehicle check: Details below
2) Engine oil service: Change oil and filter
3) Brake fluid: Replace
4) Front or rear brakes:
- Note: for certain vehicles, brakes will only start showing up in CBS 2k miles before they're due
- Replace brake pads, clean calipers
- Check brake disks and replace if necessary
- For rear brakes: replace parking brake shoes & linings if parking brake effectiveness has been noticeably reduced

These services will not be shown in the CBS display:
1) Every 2nd service (~20k miles)
- Replace cabin air filter, including 3rd row for X7
- Replace keyfob batteries
2) Every 4th service (~40k miles)
- Replace engine air filter
3) Every 6th service (~60k miles)
- Replace spark plugs
4) At 150k miles
- Replace oxygen sensor

Standard scope to be done at any/every service:
- Check check control messages, indicator and warning lights
- Reset CBS display
- Inspect tires, pressures, reset TPMS
- Check parking brake functionality
- Check sunroof guide rails for excessive contamination

When the CBS indicates to do a vehicle check, the manual has a long list of stuff for the dealership tech to check. For most of the items, as a vehicle owner you'd have noticed if there was something wrong. The notable things to check are:

- Horn
- Exterior lights: Turn signals and warning flashers, reverse, license plate
- Tires (*including spare*): condition, tread depth, wear pattern, pressure
- Brake system lines and connections, check for leaks/damage
- And finally, visual inspection and check for leaks, damage, wear, clearance of these things on the underbody:

- Transmission
- Rear axle
- Fuel lines
- Exhaust
- Suspension
- Steering
- Brakes

The driver should regularly check the levels of these fluids:
- Windshield washer
- Engine oil
- Coolant
- Brake
As well as pressure, condition, wear of tires.

These fluids are supposed to last the lifetime of the car:
- Engine coolant
- Transmission fluid
- AWD transfer case fluid

Is there a Maintenance or Service Manual booklet in your owners manual binder?

Something like this?

PinkNinja400Guy - Thanks very much for sharing this information- it is very helpful. I have a follow-up question... I recently purchased a new-to-me certified pre-owned 2021 X7 M50i. The service records indicate the second service (standard scope, engine oil service and cabin microfilters) was done at 16k miles. So I expect to be in for the next oil change around 26k miles, then 36k, and so on. When i get to my 4th service appointment, which will likely be around 36k miles, will the dealership also change my engine air filter at that time (4k miles earlier than 40k miles)? Or will they change the oil at 36k miles and then make me come back at 40k miles to get the engine air filter changed? Same situation would happen regarding the spark plugs at my 6th service - oil will need changed around 56k miles. Will they change the spark plugs at my 6th service at 56k miles (4k miles earlier than the scheduled 60k miles)? Thanks in advance!

They're specified as being every 2nd, 4th, 6th service interval. The engine oil service intervals are usually in the neighborhood of 10k miles - but if the car calculates them to be shorter, then all your other services will also happen at that accelerated rate. Or decelerated rate, if the CBS is giving you >10k mile intervals.

Hello, ty for this detailed info.
Just out of curiosity where does it mention that engine air filter needs to be replaced every 4th service or 40k miles??
I am going through the maintenance schedule document and all i see is that it would need to be done at every oil change on Page 2 and is included as part of the 3 year maintenance service on page 16.
The reason I ask is cause i just got my 30K/3 year service done on my 2021 x7 (not M) and the only thing that was done extra was brake fluid replacement as per the CBS.

Should i take it back to the dealer for engine air filter cause as per the maintenance doc it seems to be covered under the first 3 years. Is it norm for 40k change on these air filter? Seems kinda long. Any advise please. Thank you!!

I just had my '21 X7 40i 40,000 mile service done at the dealership. They said I needed to do: Transfer Case and both Differentials fluid change, plus Fuel Injection Cleaning (about $2,000 total cost). I didn't have any of it done. As noted above, the transfer case is noted as lifetime, the differentials are noted as replace for M cars only, and there is no mention of injection cleaning.

I think this is all a scam by the dealership!! Any ideas??

The majority of service writers are commission based. Its all about the upsell. Did the tell you that your blinker fluid needed to be changed and the summer air in your tires needed to be replaced with winter air...

i think you're misconstruing what its saying. its saying that in combination with the regular oil change that list of services may also be needed depending on the service number.
they arent changing spark plugs, filters, diff oil, etc every oil change.
