Close to making a decision on an E92 335i
Howdy Folks,
It's been a while since I parted with my 06 330i 6MT and I thought I could get along with a replacement 06 A4 3.2 to save some $. It turns out that saving a few dollars equates to driving hypnosis for me. The A is really pretty good in most areas (not power) but leaves out the thrill of driving for me. So long story short, I'm in the market for a used E92 335i. I've been scouring the internet looking at 07's and 08's and have decided on a color package and my preferred features. Sport/Prem/6MT. My ask here is for your thoughts on the decision to get an 07 335i or to spend the extra $ for the 08. I do plan to replace the wheels and will look into a performance chip at some point, so perhaps the extra warranty won't matter. Any thoughts would be appreciated. |

save some money and get a 07 335i .... just my 2 cents ... and since you want to chip it having no warranty just gives you ease of mind knowing that you dont have to worry about voiding it .... i chipped my car with 20000 miles left on warranty and i hate knowing i have to go uninstall my jb3 and intakes when i take it in haha

i believe the only difference between the 07 and 08 is that the 08 has the E-diff, where the 07 does not. If that is no concern to you, then go for the 07 models since it will be cheaper and you can probably find a better package setup that's equivalent to the price of an 08.

I've heard some dealers will retrofit the oil cooler if you have the auto transmission, but that's not definite. |

I don't see it as an option, so would it be correct to assume that it is standard on 2008's? Since I don't see a thousand posts about it's benefit I guess it isn't a 'must have' unless someone can tell me otherwise. |

An example of when e-diff would be helpful is when you are stuck in snow. Since we don't have LSD as a standard, e-diff is the next best thing you can get for our cars. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=194433 Check that out as they talk about e-diff and lsd in more depth. |

The e-diff would be nice here in UT where we have frequent snow 3-5 months of the year. Paired with snow tires I would feel a bit more comfortable in light snow without having x-drive.. that is if it truly works. From the comments in the link above some people are experiencing positive results with the e-diff.
The problem is finding the car setup I want on an 08 with a build date of 04/08 or newer. I was looking at one 08, but the build date turns out to be 01/08 delivered in 05/08. |

Thanks for all the advice!
I ended up going with an 08 E92. The actual production date was 01/21/08 and delivery was in 05/08, which seems a bit strange. Less than 3,000 miles in very good shape with good options. I guess I probably won't get the e-diff so hopefully some good snow tires will suffice. Cheers |

Well I'll know more when I take delivery of the vehicle in a week or so. It has the original fuel pump and is not on the recall list, so I'm sure I'll eventually feel the pain everyone else is talking about.
