Hey guys, wanted to share this X7 LCI Iconic Glow Grill Swap DIY since it’s a different process from the pre-LCI. Note the grills are also different due to the camera fitment and Iconic Glow wiring (optional). I swapped out my 40i grill for the M60i grill, which is part # 51-13-5-A23-E88.

1. Open the hood and pop a couple of the 6 tabs on each side to release the grill. This is the same process as pre-LCI

2. Immediately blue-tape the painted area directly under where the grill sits.

3. Pop out the camera. It’s also a different fitment from pre-LCI. There are only 4 tabs holding it in place. Get a small plastic pry tool and work each side to push the tabs away from the camera to slide it out.

4. This is where it starts to suck. The Iconic Glow wiring harness is next to impossible to remove from the back side of the grill given you only have about 2-3 inches of spacing to work with to start. There are 7 re-usable press-rivets along the right side and top of the grill that are crazy tight to get out, particularly difficult because of the limited amount of space to work with. You need to wiggle and pull with a lot of force on each one. Some are easy than others, but I thought I may break the grill or wiring I had to pull so hard on some of them. Start on the bottom right where the wiring comes out behind the grill and work your way around. Unplug the wiring harness from the Iconic Glow assemblies and the grill is now completely off the vehicle.

5. Remove the 2 lighting assemblies that are attached with 3 T20s each. The grill is now bare and matches your new one.

6. Work your way backwards by adding the lighting assemblies to the new grill, then the pop the press-rivets back in, then plug in the wiring harnesses, then the camera, then install the grill by popping it back in. Done.

Good job! I was also going to do the same approach for the grill, so I was looking for the part code. Thanks for sharing it. How much did you pay for the M60i grill?

Question. Did you go through all this just to add the M emblem to the grill? Or did you add the iconic glow? Did it already have the iconic glow?

Edit: I just re read. I understand now.

Have to believe it’s pretty rare for a 7 series owner to do DIY. Kudos and sick ride!

Trends change quickly. A few years ago, people with led or neon lights on their grilles were considered ricer, now we yearn for "iconic" ones on our SAVs.

I’m confused also. You took out the wiring harness from the grill? Didn’t you purchase a grill with the lights and wiring harness to swap with your non-lit grill? Why did you remove the harness?

Also, if I’m understanding correctly you had a non-lit grill and swapped it for a grill with lights…where did you plug in that harness to get power to the lights?

The way I took the instruction is that the vehicle is a 2023 40i that came with the illuminated grill. However they really wanted the M Emblem that comes with the M60i. So the only way to get that emblem is to swap the grill and move the lights from the old one to the new one as the emblem is built into the grill.

No I don’t believe so. This is a LCI specific mod.
