New 1-5-09 Map Eval and resonation question

Quote:
From Shiv FWIW, there is an intake resonation that occurs at around 13-14psi at high rpm. Exact boost/rpm point will depend on mods, baro and ambient temp. Perhaps this is what a few of you guys are hearing. It should sound like is a growl of some sort. Not a rattle. Not clunking. Nothing mechanical. Just a deeper induction note.

I have been running the Stage 0 11/14 Doomsday maps in my otherwise stock 335i, 6MT. I have been very happy with the maps and no problems, limps, etc. I had tried the 12/15 "Demo Map" and while the bottom end improvement was great, there was a "new sound" at high revs under full load. I switched back to the 11/14 maps and sound was gone, car driving fine again. I miss the new map's bottom end, but not the sound.

This past weekend, I installed the new 1/5 Doomsday map. I run some adaptation and the car is driving great. Bottom end is solid, very fast spool up, no lag, no wastegate noise. Overall a smoother tune than 11/14. I love the new map, but the "intake Resonation" is back.

While this may not be anything to worry about, I am curious about how many others are hearing this sound? What is different in the upper rev range under full load in the new maps that could cause the sound?

Thanks

It seems like its happening to alot of OP describing this noise during high RPMS, I am very curious to why the older maps didn't create this noise and these new maps do....I hope Shiv can explain this...I am very curious.

dont the new maps keep throttle plate open more when the pedal is floored, while the DME used to open and close it rapidly? maybe there is a more consistant flow now which will allow for tht resonance to occur. my 2c.. probably not even close though.

Yep.. it just has to do with no longer having excessive throttle closure activity. Now, we are finally hearing what the engine *should* sound like when all the fluttery induction noise from throttle gymnastics goes away. We all just got used to it after 2 years. Sounds mean, doesn't it? It was the first thing we noticed when we got all the Torque Targeting stuff working. The engine, all of a sudden sounded unstrained, smooth and acquired a deeper induction note. Nothing at all to worry about. In fact, quite the opposite.

Glad to read this, I thought I was hearing things when I uploaded the 12-15 maps, I thought something was wrong at first as its pretty noticeable.Nothing ever happened so I didnt sweat it. Happy to hear the answer to this now.

Nope... Something is now right. And if you dyno the car, you'll no longer see evidence of throttle closure in the form of high end "choppiness" that is common around these parts.

Weird. I have the new #55 firmware and 1-5 maps (Stage 2, non-DD) loaded up and I don't hear anything strange. I ran several 2nd-4th runs to 6500rpm this afternoon specifically listening and all I heard was sweet engine sounds. Sounds good to me!!!

I dont have the chance driving the car often lately (once per 7-10days maybe) due to weather conditions. Yes the sound has noticebly changed and I realized that just yesterday that I made some wots. Pretty nean sound. I thought that my engine was turning into a V6 or something...
