JB3 1.2 and stock airbox w/ BMC drop in

Hi, I just purchased the JB3 1.2 version, and have the stock airbox with a BMC drop in filter. Will this setup be enough for the roughly 400 crank hp with this tune? Thanks.

you will probably have around 380 hp crank. I dyno mine with only JB3 1.1V and BMC drop in and had 310 on the wheels. Results.
Valet: 250
Low Boost:280-290
Hight Boost: 310
i had winter tyres with spikes on so i lost surely 10 - 20 hp because of those (traction)

I think you'll be there. The prevailing assumption is that our cars come from the factory at around 320ish crank hp, so you should be at around 400hp with your mods and the high boost map.

yes, most definitely 400+hp crank. Stock 335i puts out 275-285whp depending on octane 91 or 93 octane, which translates into 315-325hp at the crank (factory #'s are underrated on purpose).

JB3 will give you around 345-355whp again depending on octane, drop-in could add 3whp, translates into 395-405HP at the crank. And that's being conservative with a 12.5% driveline loss by the time the power gets to the ground.

Figured I'd add some graphs to back it up. First graph is of my 335i, stock on 93 octane 6MT.

Second graph is a 335i with JB3 and helene drop-in on 93 octane 6MT. Dyno runs were done on same day with same dyno.

jb3 v1.1 alone (14 psi) is worth 345rwhp on 91 oct. on 94 350rwhp.
jb3 1.0 or 1.2 (15psi) on 93/94 oct might get you 350-355rwhp.

with Active AP only= 322 rwhp tune alone. AP with IC, cat back, and drop in filter= 344 rwhp.
JB3, IC, Dual cones, cat back= 365rwhp (STD) on 91 with proper cooling/fan speeds. With 93/94 may add 5rwhp.

So, then can the stock airbox w/drop in filter be enough for this tune, or does it really require a dual cone setup? Thanks in advance for your advice.

u dont need dual cone. The tune adapts to whatever parts you have installed.

You dont need a dual cone, its not a must. Honestly the next best mod right after a tune, is either a downpipe or intercooler. Those are the only 2 mods that give gains for the money, the dual cone is so over rated.

I agree and disagree. You're dead on about the Intercooler and downpipes but I think the dual cone is a great mod for the money.

Yea, don't get me wrong, for price it is good. But for seeing real results and putting money into something a little better, I believe the downpipe and intercooler are the best.

Cheers.

think 10-15 hp and nice sound for 100 USD is quite a good mod with DCI.

That is one of the reasons why I ordered a Spearco D.pipes will be much later. Wonder how much HP I would be running with the JB3 1.2V, Helene drop in, D1 Scoops along with Spearco???

you can forget about d1scoops... that's not going to get you much whp gain at dyno... if not at all... 80+mph on the road, maybe...
