Just bought a 2014 328i
Hello,
I just bought a 2014 328i xDrive it has the Cold Weather Package, Premium Package and Nav Package. The car has 40,300 miles, and was always maintained at the dealer with excellent service history. I have heard about the timing chain issues, should I be overly concerned? Anything else I should look out for? Jared |

If you are really concerned, you can always do the time chain replacement to version 2015 or 16, when BMW did a modification that fixed the problem. So far I have not identified if the solution is a slightly different design or better plastic material for the guides. |

The primary modification BMW made was with a revised tensioner, which was probably the problem all along, as the same chain and guides in the N55 had no problem. I'd have the tensioner replaced right off, as it's relatively inexpensive.

Congratulations on the new car. I have a 2012 328i. The timing chain guide broke at almost exactly 100,000 miles. I don't know if it had anything to do with it but Mechanic commented I should have been changing the oil much more frequently, every 4,000 miles or so. I was changing every 10,000 miles. Anyway, you have a lot of miles to go before any concerns.
