Random window opening?

Can anyone explain why occasionally when i unlock the e92 sometimes the window goes down half way as i open the door and sometimes it remains fully closed? Boring post I know but i'm baffled...

are you holding down the unlock button?
if so it will start to open all the windows and eventually open the sunroof.

No I'm not. I know if i hold the buttons on the key that they open and close the window. The window actually opens as i open the car door rather than when I am using the key.

I would ask the dealer to do a reset.

Something's fawked. My dad's Lexus used to do something similar to this and that is how they solved it.

On my E93, to close the top, one is supposed to hold the button until the top closes completely. If one continues to hold it, all 4 windows roll up as well. At random times - I have not been able to reproduce this with any regularity - the passenger window will roll all the way down after all 4 windows are done closing.

I mentioned it to the SA on my last maintenance visit, they are aware of it, but there is no fix. I just live with the gremlins.

It is strange...

That's crazy, get it checked out by a BMW service agent. Has it been raining near you lately? In one of my old cars water went into the electrical component of my windows and they would act up.

What is a reset? Can one achieve the same thing by disconnecting the battery?

Even though I have disconnected the battery - for other reasons - and the problem seems to persist.

**I do not mean to jack this thread...my apologies to the OP, but it seems our troubles are related, and we both could benefit from the same advice.

To my knowledge, no. I am not sure if it is a software reset or what.

Have you checked with the dealer on this?

You may have a sticky keyfob, did you spill any coffee or soda on it recently?

Is it both windows or just the one?

Both windows open exactly the same distance every time it happens. The windows lower the same distance (about half way) every time this 'phenomena' occurs! I haven't spilled anything on them!

The window is supposed to open a bit each time you open the door and close when you shut the door.
Since the windows are frameless the open and closing prevents from pinching and also makes for a better seal.\

Maybe this travel distance needs to be adjusted.

If it happens with both then you should probably go to the dealer. If it only happens with the one fob, you can try taking the fob apart and cleaning it - or give it a good shake.

GoodLuck!

Result!!!

Went to BMW today over the 'random' window opening. I was told that when u press the open button once on the key, the car is unlocked but the window will remain closed when u open the door. If you press the button twice however the window will open to half way as you open the door. Supposedly for ease of access. So there we go...

Garage List
the only thing that comes to mind is Comfort Access. . .
But you would need to hold it down for a couple seconds.
And all the windows will roll down
