2022 X7 4.0 Completely DEAD!
So, I went out to the garage to start the car. NOTHING!
Wouldn't start. No dash lights. No dome light. No electric of any kind. Called roadside assist and he arrives with a flatbed. Can't get the car in neutral. Tried jumping under the hood... NOTHING. Towing guy insists he needs to jump off the battery. It's in back. Can't open the tailgate, cuz it's electric. Can't move 2nd row Captains Chairs... again... electric. I call the dealer and service manager said to just drag it out. I asked if that would mess up the AWD and mgr says no. I found it odd that as he dragged the car out of the garage, the rear wheels were locked (in park), but the front wheels rolled...? Then the towing guy goes to close the hood, and drops the key FOB in this little opening on the side, in front of the passenger side front wheel. My heart sank as I heard it rattle for like what seemed forever into the dark abyss, between the fender and fender liner. Towing guy says, "I'll let BMW find it. Sigh... the car has less than 9,000 miles! Anyone else experience this complete loss of all electric power? |

Happened to me over a year ago, had it on a charger trying to get some juice into it did nothing car had ZERO battery, the tow guy jumped it from the engine bay and miraculously it brought it back to life. It went to the dealer, I don't think anything was replaced and it checked out. Dealer had no idea what happened, same thing appears on the board every so often. Dealer says that leaving the car unlocked can drain the battery, while BS in my head, no idea if true. Last instance on the board was someone whos software update didn't finish, so maybe it retrying and failing over and over killed his.

I don’t know if it can help, but I got my 23LCI in August. From about 1000 to 3000 miles, I got a few “battery malfunction” errors asking me to stop and call road assist. I went to the dealer a few time. The first time they asked me to remove the iPhone cable (I failed to explain the cable doesn’t consume anything if the car is locked and nothing is connected). On the third time, they finally replaced the battery, and since then (I’m on 7000 miles), not been a single error. The SA said I'm not the first one they replaced the battery

I just had a thought. More like a concern. Not yet sure what the fix will be, but whether the fix is a new battery or something else... Will all my programmed settings be changed by virtue of completely losing all electrical power?

Same thing happened to my 21. I put it on a 5 amp charger for a couple hours and it had enough juice to turn on the dash and interior but not start. Ended up jumping from one of my other cars, but it still took a while connected to the other car running to get enough juice to start. Once it started I drove it around for about 30 minutes then put back on the 5amp charger overnight. Been fine since. I'm assuming the infotainment or something didn't shut down properly. I usually get out in the garage and don't lock the doors. Now I lock them to make sure it shuts down.

Pure BS. I've left my car unlocked, parked in my garage for as long as 4 weeks without it draining the battery.

UPDATE:
Dealer called to say there was a module staying on line all the time. Completely killed battery. The vehicle will be ready tomorrow. They will put a new battery in, a new whatever module, and some kind of computer reprogram. I will find out tomorrow if all my previous preferences and personalized settings will hold, or will they be wiped out to default and require new settings put back in. |
