Do you keep your car in a garage?
As the title says
Unfortunately i do have a garage but it went all for storage. all the cars in my household is parked in the driveway taking in the sun in the summer and snow in the winter. i hope its not bad as long as i wash often and detail routinely. |

Unfortunately my car sits in an underground garage with maybe 6 inches, at the most, clearance on the sides when going up and down the ramp. To top it off the entry/exit sits perpendicular to a walled street street making getting in a nightmare. It has already cost me 1,200 Euro in repair costs (this was the cheapest estimate from a reputable company, dealer wanted 3,000.) When the right rear fender was scraped and badly dented when the wife tried to get in. I would almost rather leave it outside and work on keeping it clean then worry about the car being ruined every day it goes in and out.

I don't have a garage, but my very nice mother-in-law does and is letting me use it for the winter. She has a 2-car and doesn't drive anymore.

I think about a garage in terms of storing large valuable items. With this, I keep my car, motorcycle, tools and etceteras in the garage.
Let's say the items in your garage would bring in $5,000 if you sold it all. If you sold your Bimmer, you'd get $___,______.00 (fill in the blank). Which one has the most value and that IMO is the one that should be in the garage. I used to rent a storage unit to hold all of my old college days crap. It was costing over $50 per month to rent. I never used the items and after awhile, it made sense to me to give up the storage rental because it would eventually cost me more than what my crap was worth. I'd be curious to know why people keep their car(s) outside, other than that they have a ton of stuff and nowhere to put it. Many families in my neighborhood do the same thing - garage full of stuff and cars on the driveway- and I have never been able to understand it. |

2 out of the 3 are in the garage (underground parking here). I'm going to have to sell one car though, I hate having to leave one outside, and 3 cars is a bit too much right now, lol.

I have all 3 of my cars in my 3 car garage. Garages are made for cars, not storage. Sure I have other stuff in there, (snow blower, tools, yard crap) but the garage is organized and everything is out of the way for the cars. I also have a locked shed in the yard for more of the crap that generally builds up in most people's garages.
There are so many storage options out there to get your junk off the floor. They even have ceiling mounted racks that lower with pulley's if you have that much junk. Search the internet or go to your local Lowes or Home Depot. There is just no excuse for those who have a garage and still leave their cars outside! |

The Insider
My garage, along with the house, was built in 1922. It still has the original doors, and believe it or not, the original glass (3 over 3 for each door). As you can imagine, it's on the small side, but nevertheless big enough for my 3. You should definitely plan to wax more often if it is outside 24/7, or better yet, clear out the garage.

Get rid of the things you have in the garage. A garage was designed for vehicles not things that will collect dust. I'm pretty sure your car is worth more then everything you have in the garage. Just my two cents.

even if i do clear the garage, it would only be able to fit one or two cars. which i would not get priority (due to living the fam still) we have four cars in the household. so until i get a place of my own. a garage for me is a must.

Unfortunately I do not have a garage right now. Definite in the next house though.

isn't for when you park long-term though? i'm sure it will be a hassle if you put it on and take it off daily..
