BMW 530e Servicing/Insurance Costs
So I just had a bit of a surprise... Apparently EVs/Hybrids are more expensive to insure?
I previously got a quote to change my car over to a 530d and it was 200 ish extra for the remainder of the policy (9 months) but now that I'm getting the 530e I contacted the insurer and they want double that and want to increase the excess as well. Made me wonder, what are typical servicing costs for a 530e when doing a dealer service in the UK. Has anyone got any examples for a typical service (oil and filters for example). Also if anyone has recommendations for insurance brokers to use (I currently use Chris Knotts and have been doing for the last 7ish years with no issues). Thanks

Chris Knotts couldnt compete with Admiral / Bell for me, i've literally just renewed, an hour ago.
also try BMW flex insurance, they were a close 2nd to Bell for me. and were cheaper before i got onto the phone with Bell. I would assume serving would be roughly the same as the D, smaller engine to maintain, but i'm not sure if the electrical side of things needs any maintenance? shop around for your insurance, my premium has risen a total of £163 since last year, and that's for 2 6cylinder petrol motors (540 and 130). |

I use bell myself and have done for years and found then reasonable although yes they have risen quite a bit in last year or so and changing from a 540 to a 550 bumped it up a bit but less than I was expecting
For servicing these are the service packs from new but may give an indication https://www.sytner.co.uk/bmw/service...UyMiU3RA%3D%3D As an example this is from my review of a 550 and the servicing costs As you see very expensive outside of the packs. “ I have purchased the service pack inclusive for the car. This covers servicing for the first 5 years or 62000 miles. This costs £1100 and seems to be a no brainer based upon the charges below if you elect to do this without this pack. If I were not to purchase this, the “pay as you go” costs are as follows Oil and microfilter server £563 Brake fluid change £143 Oil, filter, air filter, spark plus fuel filter £1419 Vehicle check £117” |

I know here in the US, EVs (haven't heard about hybrids) are more expensive to insure because of the battery replacement. After an accident, determining the condition of the battery is difficult, if not impossible (at least from what I've read). I'd imagine the same could be said about the hybrid battery.
