AMS installs the Rixeffects / P3cars.com boost gauge
Before I get into the actual review I wanted to give you a little background on AMS and our very analytical process's of reviewing parts. In our 8 year history we have become a very no nonsense company when it comes to our reviews on products. Many companies use us in their beta testing prior to a parts release. Our standards are very high. We require OEM fitment, superb quality and 100% reliability before a product ever makes its way to our shelves or gets our stamp of approval. We believe that if you are are going to even carry a product you must stand behind it 110%. Such companies as Exedy, Precision Turbo, Fluid Lab, AEM, JRZ, Endura-tech, Autometer and many more all employ our services in not only reviewing a product but helping to engineer a better one. With that being said I will move on to our review.
About a month back I contacted Rixst3r inquiring about his OEM vent integrated boost gauge. The pictures and detail in his threads sparked our attention. We agreed to pick a unit up and do a concise review for him. The car: 2007 BMW 335i Product: P3cars.com Boost gauge Initial presentation and packing: What I first found very impressive about this product was the manner in which is was shipped. each piece was carefully cared for during the packing process which left little chance for the elephants at the local shipping company to mangle it. The instructions looked to be VERY detailed and from initial glances looked to be fool proof. Now for those that are not really into wiring or electronics you might not fully appreciate the length at which P3cars/rixst3r went to in developing this gauge. anyone that has installed an aftermarket gauge in your car knows that cutting and splicing are in your immediate future..not with this though. Rixst3r sourced all the appropriate connectors to make this clean and EASY. Installation: Staring at a box full of misc wires and instruments can be a bit intimidating. I have put in more gauges then I can count and I still find myself letting out a sigh when installing something like this. Alas I started at page one of the directions and got into it. Each step of the directions has a very detailed color picture relating to it. This might seem like common practice but I assure you it is NOT. There was not a single element of this install that did not go just as P3cars had outlined. I found myself wrestling more with getting the factory vent out and dismantled more than any wiring. In about 45 minutes time I had the gauge completely installed and fired up. all wiring went in place like stock even implementing existing factory harness'. I didn't have to cut or splice a THING. This is about as OEM as you can get in any aftermarket instrumentation. The best part was EVERYTHING is included for the install...even down to the smallest wire tie. Setup: Now that the gauge was installed I needed to go through the calibration process. I did find the instruction sheet a tad confusing but with a quick phone call it was all worked out and they even noted that they would change the calibration card to alleviate any future users having the same questions...gotta love an mfg that listens. Functionality: Now that I had the item installed and calibrated it was time to see how it stacked up and how it operated. we compared it to a manual gauge that we have here that is horribly accurate and this thing was DEAD ON. I have NEVER seen a digital gauge that isn't just a hair off aside from using a high quality MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor. That in itself sold me. It was easy to view the peak boost feature. Setup for match switching is a breeze. Conclusion: In all honesty I thought I would have something a bit bad to say about this product as I have never met an electronic boost gauge that I liked. I can say without a shadow of doubt that this gauge is not only the best boost gauge I have put in a car...it might be the best electronic part period. The only bad thing I can say about this is that with the R&D that is put into this piece they are charging WAAAY to little for this. lol if that is a bad thing. So in short this passed the AMS test with flying colors! We highly recommend this piece and hope to see it or install it in as many cars possible. For more information and pictures on this piece please feel free to visit www.rixeffects.com and soon to be www.p3cars.com Thanks for reading Eric Last edited by Eric@AMS; 01-20-2009 at 06:41 PM.. |

I would fully support this in that I have never been a fan of the electronic gauges. The sensors have always been lacking.
However, this works and is a very nice addition, as well as a unassuming additon, to the vehicle. |

I had RixEffects' prior version, it was just ok, but better than others I have seen. Then he released this. Genius! I installed it in my car. I love it. Everyone who sees it, always thought it was a BMW OEM part. I have been to two different dealerships with it on, and each time I got a complement on how nice it looks.

Couldn't agree more
Installed this yesterday. Excellent directions especially when combined with the video. No issues at all with the gauge - looks great and couldn't be happier (especially since I got in on the GB)
