I8.5 not automatic at dealer

Just picked by X5 50e up from dealer for Valve issue to EV Battery. Had hoped and was told that update to 8.5 would occur but on delivery this afternoon it was not performed. Instead was told that it was not authorized by BMW as my repair did not entail a software update. I guess technically this is true but as a show of good faith, I felt they could have updated since they had the car for 3 weeks and was told the update takes about 15-20 minutes. I maintained my cool but was disappointed by the lack of concern as I know that other dealers have stepped up in similar situations. Oh well, maybe they'll get it done when I have to take the car back in a few days for the Module for tank leak......
It will be out in September regardless of whether they do or not.

Damn, that's a shame. I will pick up mine from the dealer this week, and I still didn't get a solid response to if they will do it or not.

Yeah there was a lot of confusaround this update. Apparently BMW won’t pay dealerships to update to ID8 unless there’s something wrong with your car or the OS that requires the update. There’s a couple of threads here discussing just that.

The DMTL solution is software so you should get 8.5 then. It is due out this week.

I am visiting a dealer for a flat tire on Wednesday.(This run-flat is not run-flat actually. It is half collapsed)
Should I ask them to install 8.5 specifically?

Unless the flat tire was caused by the iDrive software somehow, they probably won’t update it. You can still ask.

This is just mind boggling. So after weeks to repair the valve issue they just say fuck you we won’t do the update???
This is so unacceptable. BMW has a serieus problem with customer service.

not everyone’s experience is a negative one regarding software updates. my dealership is a very good customer advocate during the few times I’ve brought our vehicles in for service. new software versions didn’t specifically address my “issues”, but they updated mine twice

but I am bewildered with the stance BMWAG takes with remote software updates which is obviously very inconsistent in its implementation. if a customer’s vehicle isn’t updating like it should, either fix the remote implementation problem, assist the customers in getting updated, or let us have full control (USB flashing).

So I know I have seen references to *some* people successfully getting their dealers to install 8.5. But I cannot for the life of me find anyone on these forums who actually have had that experience. I’m not doubting it — just hoping to read more about it.

Can anyone who has been updated on their 24 LCI X5 reply if you have a moment? Curious to hear confirmation and initial impressions. Thanks.

The other day we were posting links to some people who posted about being updated. If I run across that thread I will link it. There have been members both in the US and abroad who have had it down. The first was about three weeks ago or so.

Thanks. Yeah, if you happen to find the links that’s great. I’ve surfed around quite a bit and just haven’t been able to find these reports.

Obviously not life and death… But appreciate anything to shine the light on where to find those updates.

Which is expected since most dealers aren't updating them. We will see the number of 8.5 increase starting this week when the DMTL update is issued as that should be in 8.5 for eligible vehicles.

Don't dealers get paid for updating OS? 30 minutes of labor?
Or they just want to spend 30 minutes doing something else?

They only get paid if the update is required for warranty work. In the case of the upgrade to 8.5, the SIB states they will not be paid to do the update unless it is part of a another covered repair and to tell the customer that the update will be available by OTA.

Just tell them that that there are a lot of problems with the software and they will have to update it..
