Looking over some of the wallpapers on the BMWUSA website, I noticed that the brake calipers in those photos are now black with BMW written on them. A nice touch, IMO, that adds to the sense of occasion surrounding this car.
This also made me remember that in some of the press releases (I believe it was the UK one), small M bits were going to be included in the interior, like sills, shifter, and steering wheel, yet I do not see those in any of the photos. What do yall think? Are we going to have some M badges in the cockpit? I don't care too much, but it would be nice to have a small one on the steering wheel or shifter. |

You know what? I havent seen any either. Plus, if the brakes are Brembos(not denying it) why wasnt it included in the press release?? My guess is that the 135i will probably have a sport package thats 1,000 bucks that includes that stuff along with the brembos.

It is supposed to include better sport seats, but they'll still be leather. I'd rather just have some nicely-bolstered cloth seats.

I can hear it now. You spent 30k+ on a car with cloth seats?!?!?!?! In theory I wouldnt mind cloth but when I go to the dealer that might be a different story..I might see some two tone and change my mind :iono:

Cloth seats are nicer in the summer, nicer in the winter and hold up better. Then again, I chose cloth over leather for my sofa too. It may just be personal preference, but I would not be surprised if the "luxury" appeal of leather isn't rooted in the $1450 option the dealers have taught us we have to have.

There is no doubt that within the US when reselling or trading a BMW the resale valve suffers if your car does not have leather. In fact, BMW Centers are now starting to knock cars that do not have Premuim Pkg. or heated seats.

I've been trying to find out when leather became a 'luxury' item in automobiles (it was post World War II for sure - probably early '70s). In the old days, the seats exposed to the weather were leather (the driver's seat in a open cockpit town car) while the passenger seats were the finest cloth upholstery available. But no leather on the inside seats.
Chrysler has been touting a fabric called 'Yes ESSENTIALS'. Personally I believe fabric would hold up better than leather - especially 'thin' leather. |

I don't like the way leather seems to make me sweat a lot more; even when I'm not hot, and with the sport package on the E36, the seats are very comforable and bolstered well, but when driving gets spirited, I still slide a little. It's really annoying.

I vastly prefer the painted brake calipers. Gives it a finished look.
As for the leather debate, good leather is still to be desired. It just feels really good. However, most leather is getting to be of worse quality. Which is why I will get leatherette every chance I get. It is durable, comfortable, and doesnt look or feel as cheap as cloth. |

I'm gonna have to vote for illuminated door sill plates. Most are blue, but I've seen some aftermarket ones that light up in the same amber color as the insturment cluster. They look really good.

It's been leather or leaterette with BMW for so long, I'd love to see a new choice. MINI has this awesome stuff called "Space Cloth" that you can get in two-tone colors.
Another option is to get the leatherette and get whatever color you want from an aftermarket vendor like Wet Okole http://www.wetokole.com/ |

I'll take good cloth over any leather. The red cloth and black leather combo seats in the interior pics look great, i hope we get them in US. But then again BMW will make you get leather if you want a navi...suks
