That is Sedona Red, Crimson Red isn't an option on the 1er in Germany

1-er coupe spotted in Munich back Street

It is Sedona Red...a redder Sedona Red.
Also note the roundel in the middle of the trunk is taped over- I mean, c'mon, they are funny about that stuff-
and contradictory...the only reason I can think of is of something obscure like driving on a portion of a public road-
or.... something.
:smile::biggrin:

Also for those of us who think there is no such thing as a "spy shot" this was taken and posted by a regular contributor to GCZ
who says he just so happened to see the car while in Munich - this is the only picture he managed to shoot.

Brookside - I spent a very good part of this morning into the afternoon at the Good Guys hot-rod show - just looking at metallic reds (and rat rods w/ hemis, and old T-buckets, and . . . ; -). The sun in the shot above is pretty high - and the sun in some of the shots we've seen where Sedona Red looks orange has been low on the horizon.

Yep- you are right Hugo...my thinking is they also modified Sedona Red- and made it redder as a result of near unanimous disapproval of the early (orangier) Sedona Red.
I'm guessing but it sure seems like everytime we see this color it darkens- light effect/time of day/ lens speed...I don't give a hooey- Sedona Red has darkened.

No offense, but what are you basing this on? More than a crappy camera phone pic? I don't see BMW tinkering with the color now. And besides, some of us actually like the Sedona Red that's already been shown. :drinking:

Personally I wouldn't think they've changed the color - but changing angles of the sun will effect the perceived color. When the sun is low on the horizon it'll take on a more orange cast. There was another thread on Sedona Red where I believe we uncovered that the base color is red - and the metalflake coat would then be gold. Depending on how small and dense the metal flakes are will make a lot of difference in the resulting 'color'.

I don't want to argue about which Sedona Red is the best color...that's an individual's perogative.
But, I'll bet you're wrong that the color has changed. All we have to do is wait and see. Just keep those early shots handy and we can compare.
Actually don't- I have just about every shot.

The proof is in the Munich photo- the photo was taken on an inexpensive Olympus camera- not a cell-phone.

I think they began to change the color between the earliest official press photos and the shots of Hans Stuck at the Ring where the car is noticably bronze-red to the first public debut to the press at BMW Welt and the car is red with a metallic hue. The Munich car is also the darker red in comparison to the early photos- like I say, we'll see, but I won't strike up an arguement because there's nothing really at stake.
I think skepticism is healthy as long as you keep an open mind.

No big deal if I'm wrong on this...but I do like the darker red- whether its sunspots, my bleary eyes, or whatever.
If we can use an image for a reference Hugo it's the Winding Road pics because of hi-resolution and pro-caliber color accuracy.

The candid Munich pic is interesting in that it shows (new) SR under sunlight.
Like I said...I could be wrong- the color could be so damn fugitive that it changes dramatically under a variety of circumstances.
But I think I'm right. They changed it. Your eyes should tell you that.

If it has changed I'd almost bet that they changed the metal flake from silver (the Stuck shots) to gold (the more recent photos). I suspect the base would be left alone (and is in reality nothing more than crimson red - or whatever other red happens to be dribbling out of the spray guns in the paint booth ; -).

Interesting that 1addicts put their piss on this in a matter of what - 6 hours after it popped up this morning on GCZ. Pretty quick for some mug who-
according to his post over there, just so happened to be in Munich, only got one (beautiful) shot, went home and completely forgot about seeing the 1-er and the fact that he'd taken a photo of it- and finally posts it 2 weeks later. Yeah baby! I love amateur spy pics.

I want red regardless. the "original" Sedona Red had a hint of orange which attracted me initially but I would still go with it even if it has darkened. a close second option is Montego Blue.

Really starting to like that color. My first choice has always been black eather jet or sapphire.
So now thinking sedona red first, sapphire black second. Good thing I have some months before I have to pick one color.

No offense here either- but I wanted to point out one or two items that hopefully are of interest to you and others.

It's not a "crappy" photograph. Because the image is somewhat blurred and we're catching reflections off the windshield it looks amateurish and improvised.
The photograph was made with an inexpensive point-and-shoot
Olympus digital camera-or at least that's what the guy who originally posted this says.

The longer I look at the photo the better it looks to me- it absolutely captures the commanding presense and brawn the little car has- check out how the focal point is off..ie, the blue car in the background is in perfect focus, the 1-er isn't because of it's movement and the limitations of cheap digital cameras to capture action. But even that heightens the sense of speed and purpose.

To me this is one of the top 10 pics we have of the car -
out in a natural crowded urban environment rather than the souvenir post-card backgrounds of the American desert with a car that's so clean and waxed it's sterile and unreal.
This setting is how most of us will see the car- thrown in against the messy reality of everyday life- and the 1-er looks incredible.

really is a sexily proportioned car. that angle kind of shows you why the front had to be the way it is, why it works. aggressively stubby ..but thats what i like
