24 x7 m60i exhaust upgrade
Hello,
I know many of you like me feel for a vehicle if this caliber to sound so tamed is disappointing. A few systems I see out there for crazy money and sounds do not justify the cost. Anyone do res delete at a shop or straight pipe the muffler? Has anyone actually done an exhaust upgrade and comment on it? Need some feedback |

I am new to the site and have noticed there is not much conversation on the X7 forum so here are my thoughts. I am picking up my special order X7 M60i on Monday. I have been thinking about what to do about the exhaust flappers (valves). I want to hear the V8 sound from the exhaust pipe and not through the speakers. I'm thinking that I want the valves to be open all the time but I do not want drone so until I hear the sound with the flaps open in the driveway and cruising down the Interstate I'm not sure what I'll do. Surely I can temporally force them open or remove to determine my plan of action. I'll check to see if the flap signal is digital or analog and if there is a position feedback signal to the ECM. I'll let you know what I find.

I plan to use the AWRON valve controller on my upcoming M60i. I have it installed on my M3 and for $600 it's probably the best mod I've done.
https://www.awron.de/en/produkt-kate...-reihe/x7-g07/ I posted a couple links here to more details on the installation for M3s. https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=30537598

Received my new X7 M60 and disabled the exhaust valve operation. The valves (flaps) are open all the time. It was much easier that I anticipated and the sound is great with no drone and no code. Actuators are attached and electrically connected as original. Removed the spring and linkage between actuator and valve and used stainless wire to hold flaps open. Easy peasy.

Yes I have pics but still trying to figure out how to insert pics into the forum reply. I tried using attachment paperclip and cut and paste which didn’t work so I have some homework to do.

Pics
There are three pics. I marked the details in paint in case I need to reassemble. In the magenta paint marked view there are five marks. Starting from the left between the third and fourth mark that bracket has to be gently pried off the actuator with a screwdriver. You should remove the actuator mounting screws but no need to remove the actuator or the connector. Once the bracket is popped off you have to fish out the bracket and spring. They will have to rotate and wiggle to get out of the welded valve bracket. Use stainless steel wire and wire the valve to the open position. This is tricky. You can see inside the exhaust pipe to see how the rotating valve is positioned so keep the tabs aligned with exhaust pipe flow direction when you are wiring. That is it. Actuator works electrically as it did but not mechanically connected to the valve to rotate. No codes. |

You must be a mechanic or very handy. There is no way a person would have figured this out with out any knowledge of this set up. Bravo 👏 |

Yes, sort of. It is called the SPORT mode button. You can use if you want to open the valves, the car to squat, shift at high RPM's and suck fuel. This way I get the V-8 sound all the time either in comfort or sport mode because the valves are not being controlled by the car.

There are a few options for aftermarket exhausts for the m60i GT Haus makes an exhaust system and midpipe for the car but I haven’t seen any good videos posted yet to hear it. Also RedStar Exhaust makes a set of primary and secondary downpipes for the m60i. I just recently found videos and it sounds amazing! Just like an f90
