BMW XM track test review

BIMMERPOST

Still amazed at how this thing is tossed by this reviewer around a track for something weighing over 6000 pounds. There is a time around the same track for M4 competition as well at 5:06.

I still can't believe people spend money on these things.

If you actually drove one, you might have a different opinion. I absolutely love my new XM Label. It’s OK if you don’t like it. That’s what makes the world great, we all have options. In my personal opinion, the XM Label looks much better without the red stripe or the red and black wheels. It’s a beast.

The most lust-worthy car in BMW line-up.
I'd get this in a heartbeat if I had the budget. The only ICE SUV I'd get.

For context, I just traded in my 2023 iX M60 for this thing and I do not regret the decision! It is so much more fun to drive!

Sure it’s great around a track on a nice smooth tarmac. And the brakes and tires will love it. I’d bet almost no one buying one of these is taking to the track...

…I’ll never quite understand the performance SUV. If you have enough money to do both a sports car and an SUV, why not have both? Even when I got my v8 x5 it was for speed but not for outhandling sports cars. You’re asking for a punishing ride quality and eliminating off-roading or even gravel roads.

My money is on a cush SUV and a sports car combo.

I’ll take mine to MSR Houston. I’m certainly familiar with that track on a different BMW:

You are the exception. How much is track insurance if regular insurance is $400/mo?

I think I’d rather save 30k and go with a Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid if I wanted something similar

You don’t need extra insurance for a track day; however, it’s a different story if it’s a competitive event like that picture I shared which was during a CMRA race. BTW, I just got a quote from State Farm today for just under $2,200 for the entire year if I also move my homeowners over.

I’ll even consider taking it to the M Driver school since the M Driver’s Package comes with a one-day event. I actually need to look into that. I’ve only had this thing since Saturday.

Oh wow, that’s a great deal. Did you have to do the x7m60 sub-exception policy or did they find a way? When I got my M3, they didn’t have 2023’s in their system yet so it’s a thing with SF. But coming down … that’s great. Wonder if they’ll jack you up next year. Rates are going crazy.

Track insurance? hahaha You just eat the cost if it gets too mangled or wear the scars proudly. Usually any frame damage totals it. I'd probably opt for insurance if it was a collector's bike.

I did mention that to the agent as a suggestion that someone else on this forum gave me, but they already had the XM base model already profiled, so they’re pushing it through even though they are very well aware of the $30,000 price increase of the XM Label. This is not a very smart business decision on Progressive’s part, because now they’re going to lose all of my other policies too.

Good move. I’ve been happy with SF for 20+ years.

That’s great to hear. Looks like I will be moving over my home, flood, auto, and motorcycle policies. Thanks for the suggestion earlier.

I’ll may tweak the coverages amounts later, but here’s the quote I got today. Kind of hard to say no!

I can really only explain the purchase discount. My family has purchased a lot of vehicles from that dealership. Personally, 4 of my last 5 BMWs have come from them in the last 7 years not to mention the service business. Don’t forget that $7500 of that 20K they took off came via a BMW leasing rebate, so anyone would get that. The only reason I didn’t purchase my iX from them is because there weren’t available In the Houston area and dealers were not willing to give up their allocations at the time.

As far as the insurance is concerned, I have just called around to so many companies. Quotes have been all over the map!

Ah, I go with a $1k ded. & max out liability coverage. I should probably reconsider my deductible! Few things I’ve utilized with State Farm coverage… windshield ded. of $50, medical coverage - payments for injury to you ($10k limit) and car rental/travel. Those are cheap but come in handy.

I have literally opted out of all of those things. Thanks for reminding me about the windshield coverage. I have a $0 glass break deductible with progressive and I definitely want that coverage. I keep my deductibles high because I drive very little and work from home. And if I wreck a $190,000 vehicle, I’ve got bigger problems than a $2000 deductible. It really helps keep the premiums down.
