BMW F30/F31 M-Sport Steering Wheel Retrofit

Hello,

I have a 2018 F31 and recently tried to install an M-Sport steering wheel. Right now I have the standard ugly sport wheel with the red stitching. When I installed the M-Sport, the steering wheel, paddles, and some buttons worked, except it was throwing codes for the cruise control, blindspot, etc. (They weren't working either.) Im guessing it's because the M-Sport wheel that I purchased from Ebay doesn't have the motor that vibrates for the lane assist? The seller assured me that the wheel would work with my car. Does anybody know the right part number for the airbag or steering wheel that I would need? Or could I keep this wheel and add wiring to make it work. Also, is any additional coding needed? If so, could someone give me some information on how to do that? Thanks!

You didn’t code it. Of course it doesn’t work

And the electronics depends on what options you have on your car from factory.

So you haven’t given us enough info to even try and assist you with proper part numbers.

Run your VIN on a VIN Decoder and get the list of your factory installed options.

Then look at the electronics needed that cover those options on realoem.com to figure out if it’s the right electronic part.

I did a full M Sport OEM conversion. The wheel was a learning curve even for the dealer. You need every part under the M Sport steering wheel matrix. If you do not buy even the right wiring harness for the wheel, you'll throw codes like no tomorrow. For lane departure, you'll need the m sport vibration motor. The motors are different between the wheels. Nothing can be reused between both wheels.

Sounds like a headache, but I appreciate your help. Here's my current wheel as a reference. I found this one on eBay, going to confirm my VIN with the seller.

The new wheel looks to have everything except the airbag, which is the most expensive part. Everything will wire up once you have the airbag.

I already have an airbag for the wheel, so it won't be needed. I found this one which I think is perfect. My stock steering wheel says SET on it, not LIM. This M-Sport one I found says SET and the seller says its for wheels with Lane-change warning and Driving Assistant. So after I buy this one, what else do I need? The wiring and coding?

This steering wheel looks to have everything you need. It should wire up perfectly. My car looks like it came with the wheel from factory. You'd never know unless you ran the VIN.

Awesome. Also, is your car an LCi? My car has Servotronic steering and the dealer said that it's not possible to retrofit cars that have Servotronic?? Do you know anything about that?

That's a load or crap. It's a steering wheel. You're not changing the steering column. I have a 2015 435i. Pre LCI.

Set is for cars with standard Cruise Control

LIM is for cars with Adaptive Cruise Control with the radar unit on the front grill

That doesn't sound right, all my BMW with standard cruise had the LIM button to limit accelerating above a set top speed.

You may be able to keep the M-Sport steering wheel and add wiring to make it work, but this will require some technical knowledge and expertise. If you are not comfortable doing this yourself, you should take it to a qualified BMW specialist.

I had had multiple f series BMWs based on 3 chassis. All have had the standard cruise and not ACC. None of those have had the LIM Button. I’ve only seen the button on the ACC versions.

But I’ve also seen so many weird things in BMWs, nothing would surprise me.

I have an F30 with standard cruise
I also have the LIM (limit speed) button. All it does is allow you to set a max speed, You can then vary your speed between 0 and set max speed, without the need to re set. Much more useful than standard cruise imo.
