Winter Wheel/Tire Setup?
Did a quick search and couldn't find an answer on point. What would be the best wheel/tire size setup for winter for the 135i? I plan on getting 18 inch wheels, but what about a 17 inch setup for winter tires? How about the staggered wheels? Can you go one size all around without a problem for winter? How about wheels from other models, any direct fits?
I just put Blizzaks on aftermarket wheels for one of my cars and the driving has been so much better in foul weather this winter it is amazing. I have similar designs for my 135. |

Hugo is right on. You may want to consider the $0 cost option of 17" wheels for winter use when you order your 135i and buy a nice set(4) after market 18x8.5 with hi-perf. summer non-runflat 245x35 all around. You'll be able to rotate tires properly, it'll ride and grip better, and you get to choose the summer wheels.

It is a very good thought, but I am fixing to do ED next July and I think it would be a shame to put the 135 on the A-Bahn with anything less than 18 inchers  And I do like the 18" OEM wheels, I am a stock kind of guy. I had staggered wheels on my E36 M3. I know they have their reasons, but I wish BMW would consider a non-staggered version. Are there any direct fit BMW OE wheels from other models? |

The 17" OE wheels from a 328 or 335 MIGHT fit and could be picked up cheaply from someone upgrading to 18" or 19" wheels. The big question is the clearance for the 6-pot front brakes on the 135i which the 3-series don't have. Worth checking out though.

That is definitely my thought and preferred path. I suppose this will be well figured out by the time I get my 135 next July, and I have plenty of time before next winter. I was just thinking I could start looking around if I knew what I was looking for! Thanks guys.

I have a couple sets of M Contours mounted with 225 Nokian Haapkapeiitas. One set on the 332ti, and the other on the e90 w/spacers. I'm hoping I can get them to fit on the e82. They grip like mad in the snow.

I've always been partial to Blizzaks but I have heard wonders about those Hockeypucks. This is probably my last season on the Blizzaks, I may have to check those out next go around.

For something a little less expensive but very good in snow try Hankook Ice Bears. They working very well on our MCS.

Or simply wait until next fall and buy a package from Tire rack (or whoever) of wheels and tires and get the 18's on the car. That will give you some time to save for the extra set. Tires seem to get better each year and what is hot now will be middle of the road next season. Definitely go with 17's for snow and narrower. Recommendations will be better next year after some of the testing is done already.

Tire rack now shows 2008 135i coupe as an option in their oem and tire size finder.
Notably, with the 135 rims, there are ZERO all season or winter snow tires, i.e. you must buy smaller rims. |
