I'm guilty of losing a wheel at autocross. I was using 5mm non-hubcentric spacers, and it put too much strain on the lugbolts. I sheared one bolt about halfway through my run, and the rest went pop-pop-pop-pop, and the car dropped to the ground, and my driver's side rear wheel went flying past me. The car was going about 60mph around a sweeper.

Not good.

Don't use non-hubcentric spacers on BMWs.

I worked at Santa Monica BMW for several years. I once sold a 3 Series to a customer that wanted a different manufacturers tires than were on the one he purchased so the service dept. swapped all 5 with another new 3er from our inventory. The guy headed out the driveway happier than a pig in shit and made it about a 100 ft. down the boulevard before the right rear wheel fell off.
