Wifey’s X7 Brooklyn Grey XPEL Stealth on HREs
![]() Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Mods: XPEL Stealth, HRE FF10, IND painted reflector, 50th anniversary roundel, front lip, tinted windows 35% front/50% back This was what it looked like on pickup day. A rainy Veteran’s day and this photo opportunity came up. ![]() Installed XPEL stealth PPF and HRE “winter wheels” w/all season tires. Added a front lip which transforms the aggressiveness of the front end. Still waiting for the rest of the aero parts to arrive. It’s a very unique color with the stealth PPF. The ceramic coating adds some depth and richness to the matte/stealth look. Our first vehicle with a matte finish but the wife agreed to it. It was a DIY install that took quite a bit of man hours to complete. Overall she’s been happy with the transformation so far. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() New photos added. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by espressoo; 02-04-2024 at 11:21 AM.. |

This looks fantastic! I have the 22” HRE FF10’s on order, slated for mid-January. This has me even more stoked. I was between the FF10 and the FF11’s. I was a bit worried the FF10s would look too busy, but in these pics they don’t at all.
How do you like them so far? Tried to clean them yet? |

Thanks! The FF10s look great on a big SUV. The finish on these are gloss black as opposed to the standard tarmac black finish. I ceramic coated the wheels to help keep the maintenance down but it’s still a chore to clean. I guess that’s the trade off in the looks department.

Appreciate the feedback!
The front lip is from Amazon but the same one can be found on AliExpress. Lip choices are pretty limited on the LCI X7 but this one turned out nice. Fit was very good and uses all factory mounting points plus double sided tape. |

Really nice looking SUV espressoo
![]() The snow plough on the front really adds to the kerb appeal ![]() I have similar wheels by Vossen but added some subtle wheel spacers just to bring them out of the wheel arches a little.

Do you mind listing out specs of wheels...I saw the widths up earlier, but interested in the offsets and also what tires. Are those just the stock Continentals.
Any rubbing at full turn? |

These are replica center caps I got years ago I believe on AliExpress. I haven’t seen any available the last time I looked. I liked the older style red/blue/white HRE center caps but HRE won’t sell them unless you had serial numbers for their forged wheels. They’re pricey too at $100-150/each when I asked them about it. Hence I went with replicas. They match well with the BMW 50th anniversary roundels.

The HRE FF10s are 10.5 et35 fronts 11.5 et40 rears. Custom finished “liquid black”. There are no custom offsets for the FlowForm series wheels. These are standard offerings that would fit an X5/X7. Tires are Continental DWS 06 all season tires in OEM sizes. 275/40/22 and 315/35/22. Fitment wise there’s no issues. Wheels/tires are not super flush to the fenders but fine for now. In OEM 22” sizes all season tires are very limited for the X7. I would prefer Michelin tires since I think their side walls are better looking compared to Continental but it’s currently not an option. The Continental tires drive great though.

Well damn, that is one good look X7. I hadn't even thought to wrap the Brooklyn Grey in Matte finish PPF, but it now has me thinking as it's stunning!

Where did you go to get your tires mounted and wheels installed? I’m debating Discount Tire vs dealership. If I use Discount Tire, they said I can purchase their warranty on the tires. Which can be good for peace of mind.

Appreciate the feedback! BG is a unique color and looks completely different depending on the lighting. Parked in the garage it looks like a dark grey but in full sun it’s almost white. Overcast days it has a slate grey/blue appearance. Once the stealth PPF was installed it accentuated all the lines giving it a more masculine look. The ceramic coat adds a little sheen and makes the matte pop a little. We have a pre-LCI X5 as well and although it’s a good looking vehicle, the X7 just looks more badass coming down the street. I was on the fence with the split headlights when it was first released but after some light cosmetic mods the X7 turned out great.

I have been thinking about doing this as well (at least the matte PPF, front lip and cosmetic mods, wheels will have to wait), and your set up just convinced me. Looking fantastic man, thanks for sharing.

Tires were purchased from TireRack and shipped to a preferred performance shop they had listed. The shop had no issues doing the install. Tires through TR comes with a 2 year road hazard warranty.

PPF price varies by region. In my area I was quoted $9.5K-$12K for the X7 since it's large SUV. Stealth PPF requires you to do the whole vehicle hence the expensive install quotes. If you were doing just clear PPF, you can just do the front end and high impact areas for a fraction of the cost. I decided to buy bulk materials and did the install myself. If you're a BMW CCA member, you can buy it directly from XPEL with a 20% discount. XPEL PPF material cost me $3K. If you purchased a PPF kit, it's probably double that cost and you might as well pay a shop to install the PPF for you. I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself unless you had some experience. For example, a large piece to do the hood cost ~$300. If you mess up, that material goes into the trash so it's an expensive learning experience. I did the whole vehicle including the roof and door handles. It took an incredible amount of time but the outcome was pretty good. There are a few areas I need to fix or redo in the spring once the weather warms up. I'm looking forward to getting the Maxton side skirts installed by then too to complete the look. I would love to get the X5M roof spoiler to fit an X7 but it's not a direct fit. Same with the fender flares. The X5M ones would look great on an X7 but I don't believe it's plug-in-play. There's not many modded X7 on the forums but I hope to see more. Glad everyone enjoyed the photos! Happy modding. |

Wow this looks sick. Newbie so excuse the question but what color was that car originally? Does the ppf come in a matte/color that essentially replaces the original car color?
