29/02/2008 1 Series Convertible Fires Opening Shot at Melbourne Motor Show
  • Pricing announced for new three-model convertible range.
  • Customer deliveries start 20 May.
BMW Group Australia has announced pricing for the new 1 Series Convertible that will star on the BMW stand at the Melbourne International Motor Show.

The new four-seat BMW convertible will open up a whole new world for the premium convertible buyer with its combination of style, performance and versatility.

The new BMW 1 Series Convertible will be ready for customer deliveries in Australia beginning 20 May.

It will be available in three models: the 115 kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol 120i, the 160 kW inline six-cylinder petrol 125i, and the 225 kW 3.0-litre twin turbo petrol 135i boasting the 2007 International Engine of the Year.

As the only rear-wheel drive convertible in its segment, the BMW 1 Series Convertible brings all the values familiar in other BMW convertible models, including class-leading dynamics, outstanding safety and unadulterated driving pleasure.

The multi-layer, acoustic insulated soft top provides a snug, cosy interior in cold weather, while folding hydraulically in a rapid 22 seconds at road speeds up to 40 km/h, a unique feature in the premium convertible compact class.

In addition to benefiting from class leading standard BMW safety features including seat occupancy detection airbags, pyrotechnic seat belt pretensioners, belt force limiters and crash optimised front seat backs with anti-whiplash head rests, passengers in the new 1 Series Convertible are also protected by pop-up rollover bars that deploy if necessary from behind the rear seat headrests.

Australian summers are a breeze, too, thanks to BMW’s innovative new SunReflective Technology that significantly reduces leather seat surface temperatures by up to 20 degrees when the car is sitting in the hot sun. Automatic climate control with convertible mode is also a unique feature in this compact convertible class; in the space of one minute, it can replace all the air in the passenger compartment no fewer than three times.

The 1 Series Convertible is also practical. It is capable of holding as much as 260 litres of luggage with the roof folded down, adding a further 45 litres when the roof is up. Boot space can be increased via the through-loading system which includes an integrated transport bag.

Looking equally as stunning with the roof up or down, the new BMW 1 Series Convertible is destined to bring a new sense of style to Australia – summer or winter.

1 Series Convertible pricing*:

120i with 6-speed manual transmission $52,900

120i with 6-speed Steptronic automatic transmission $55,500

125i with 6-speed manual transmission $63,400

125i with 6-speed Steptronic automatic transmission $66,200

135i Sport with 6-speed manual transmission $78,400

135i Sport with 6-speed Steptronic automatic transmission $81,200

*Pricing does not include dealer delivery and other statutory on road charges.

A full list of standard specification will be released closer to the local arrival of the BMW 1 Series Convertible range.

Dudes, the world's most expensive convertible Rolls Royce Drophead coupe has cloth top. I sat in it yesterday and there is definitely nothing cheap about it! I am starting to really like the 1 series convertible actually.

Well we aren't talking about a Rolls Mr

Still, I'd never buy a car with a cloth roof. Even a Rolls. Not that I'll afford one in this life time
