My dealer tells me four 135's have been ordered, plus, this gang of four respond as clones, we all have 'the bug', the enthusiasm, that fire in the belly. If the other four are so fired up, how come they're presence has gone unnoticed, where are the rabid blog-monkeys from Medford, am I the lone Rogue Valley rep @ 1ADDICTS? Could my dealer have confused four 1-Series orders as four 135's? That's what I'm thinkin'.

Are you guys 'out there'? All I hear are the crickets...

The crickets are getting lonely...an AC Schitnzer 3-Series is known to populate the area, where are you folks? Hello...

OK, OK, my SA calls me 7 minutes after the dealership's 1er-demos hit the lot. As I live but .4 miles from the dealership I sprint over 8 minutes later. Only have a few minutes to peruse the car before it goes to the detail center for prep.

Fast forward 4 hours later, I had been thinking about the car since the initial exposure...returning from grocery shopping I tooled by the dealership's detail facility and there it was. I pulled in, introduced myself to Dan, the detail guy, explained the circumstances with him then letting me look the car over for quite some time. We began chatting, explained to him I had a small mobile detail service 25 years ago, blah, blah, blah...

The car is much more attractive in the flesh. BTW, Sedona Red isn't particularly red, it resembles brown metallic rust.

As the BMW dealer ship is between my house and work, I have been driving-by the place all week just to catch a glimpse of the 128 on the lot. Today, on the way to work, I noticed what appeared to be a black 1-Series, no way I thought, upon pulling in I discover a metallic black 135i, auto, premium, sport, leather, the works. Man, that car looks so much better in the flesh than in photos with black reducing the hideous door sag to an inconsequential minor annoyance. So, there I am, standing in the pouring rain, salivating. From the building runs Erik, he asks, "Wanna' drive it?" Funny guy. The fellas at the dealership are well aware of my unfettered, child-like enthusiasm for the car and have shown themselves to be very accommodating.

So, we hop in for a short blast below 4,500 RPM. In order to keep mileage down, the dealer is only letting folks go around the block. Hmmm. Car feels great 'in the hand', it wants to 'buck' as the throttle responds immediately while the incredible brakes instantaneously eliminate the previous arrest-me-now-officer insanely rapid acceleration. It took two hours to 'come down' from my all too brief first encounter with a 135i.

With the Phoenix Leader docking yesterday, the hot-rod is now less than two weeks away. The anticipation continues to be an exercise in sometimes subdued, sometimes breathless anxiety. :drinking:

Oh yeah, I'll be driving by the dealership on the way home. Again.

Surname,

I can't wait to read your first impressions about the car. You are the proverbial kid in the candy store with your enthusiasm. And an old fart to boot based on an age survey you took. Hell, I just hope to be alive when I’m your age let alone be so entirely stoked about something other than Viagra.

Well, generally I leave my telephone disconnected save for a few hours on the weekend specifically to touch base with my buddies around the country, but, I left the phone connected all night 'just in case'. Good thing. My SA called. Two hours til' the 135. Oh dear, now what I am gonna' do with my life now that there is no 135 to look forward-to? Oh yeah, drive Dead Indian Road.

Woo hoo !:roundel:

I'm back after putting 117 miles on the 135...:roundel: ...a busy day 1.

The following impressions are those of someone who is not necessarily a 'car' guy though I am unequivocally a 'BMW 2002' guy.

Initial viewing was love at first sight, of course. The object of our collected affections is far more attractive in the flesh than most photos have communicated, particularly flattering is Jet Black as it tends to camouflage some of the oft-times criticized 'curious' styling motifs. My sales guy, Paul Johnson, and I, headed out for an introduction to all the wonderfulness that is the BMW 135i. Having driven a manual transmission once in the last 20 years, a brief 45-second relearning curve ensued(it’s just like riding a bike, BTW, completely natural). Now sufficiently familiar with the controls to rate border-line dangerous, I return Paul to the dealership, finalize paperwork, handshakes. Let's go play...

This car more than lives up to the tired moniker, ‘furious’, the car is downright disarming, the thing is frighteningly fast. At first I was challenged reigning-in the speed as the little monster just wants to run away from you. Keeping the RPM below 4,500, however, turned-out to be less than a completely successful endeavor, my gosh, the thing pulls like a frickin’ freight train, the torque never ends. I tried to be good, I did, but, I saw 5,000 rpm 5 times. It's just so easy to get swept-up with the momentum, I think I got it out of my system.

The steering feels heavy and I caught some under steer while letting off the power in an off-camber twisty, my bad. While heavy the car is quite nimble and sticks to the road like a proper BMW should. Some very minor body roll was evident though not obvious, unlike the 2002, which lolled about like an indolent drunk, the 2002 still cornered remarkably well. The 135 reminds me of slot cars; rigid, quick, blindingly fast, a muscle car that handles like a BMW. The car is a bit cold, if not aloof, while my old 2002 was a favorite sweatshirt, a garment, zen-like would you wear the car, the 135 does not do that, it is an M-machine from first introduction announcing itself at full throat. The BMW 135i is magic.

Am I glad I bought the thing? Four-alarm, bloody hell, psycho-killer yes! Was it worth the 8-month wait? I woulda' given-up sex for 8 months had I known the car was going to be this intoxicating to drive. Oh, yeah, no GF, I did give up sex for 8 months. Never mind…

No pictures as yet because he got a bit dusty during his initial sortie. Poor baby bimmer.

If you haven't already, get your butt down to your local dealer, adjust the blocks, sprint for the tape, order yourself a 135i. Tell em’ Mr. Surname sent you.

congrats!!!
sounds like you had fun I have to admit I've had a hard time keeping it under 4500 rpm. My sales guy told me I could take it up to 5500 rpm once a day!! during break in period, but not to drive it hard 100% of the time! So for the most part I keep it under control.

Yep. It's a nightmare. The trick is to not become anally neurotic about dust. You might possibly see some road born evidence of 175 miles through local rural twisties.

Well, having had the car for a whole 5 days I can reliably report black is a 'mother' to maintain. Keeping the little monster impeccable is sort of an obligation at this time as 'all eyes' are on the thing when driving about or parked at work. Within a month, after the garage has been remodeled, he can live indoors, remaining perfectly perfect.

Do you guys also regard your 'little monster' as magical?

Just returned from a break-in sortie, having accrued a certain amount of dust on the little monster he now looks to be Sapphire Black. As it turns out, with JB you can be either plain or with sprinkles. Awesome.:biggrin:

Yes, your black one is beautiful to behold. Have done the black thing....always an attention getter when clean and shiny. Enjoy and remember...dust on, dust off.
