Slick 50 (or similar products)

Read a bunch of opinions about how to 'properly' break in an engine. I guess I'll do what feels right to me (in accordance with the manual :wink. My question is, does anyone have experience / opinions concerning Slick 50 engine treatment or similar products? I used it in an old BMW that burned oil and it stopped a good 90% of the burning. I've put it in other engines after the break-in period and felt I got something out of it. (My um, Contour Sport always got better gas mileage than the EPA label).

Have you ever heard of 'Snake Oil'? ; -)

Here's one link I found googling "the truth about slick 50": http://www.xs11.com/tips/maintenance/maint4.shtml

As a matter of fact, atr_hugo, if that is your real name, I have heard of snake oil. Used some on my bald spot. Got hair all over my back now.

Good link, though, thanks. But I must admit I did see improvements with the oil burn problem. Can't necessarily say I got better gas mileage because of it though. Could've been coincidental.

Enough questions were raised in the article that I'll probably never use it again. Certainly not in my 135i that's on order. Although it'll be hard to let go of the 'Psychological Placebo Effect'...

You're much braver than I am.

They won't tell you as it is apparently one of their dirty little secrets, but, many, many women like shaved heads. Who knew? Us guys figured they sought a luxuriant coif with which to pair. Ooooh, they can be such evil creatures.

Uh, I think this response is loosely related to Slick 50.:iono:

Uhmm.... I got my hair soooooo back to the discussion on snake oil treatments.

I have used Lubro Moly products in my 325 and have seen marginal improvements. Jectron injection cleaner comes to mind. Or do you think they are all bad news?

A new car certainly will never get this stuff until it starts to approach 100k.

Slick50 is not ment for new engines. Put 50k on your car, then you might consider Slick50.
