Whistling noise with sunroof tilted

Hi, We've recently gotten a 220i with a sunroof which tilts and fully opens aswell.

I don't use it much because when i tilt it, i can hear a whistling noise to my left at higher speeds (above 60km/h ish).

Does anyone have this issue aswell? And if so, how did you fix it?

Also, should the fully opened sunroof only be used at lower speeds? The plastic bit that goes up with a net when it's opened rattles too much for my liking, as if it's gonna fly off.

I'd really like to hear your thoughts and opinions.

Thanks ^^

2022 m240i here with the same exact noise to my left. I thought it was the window trim until I figured out that it was the tilted sunroof. Have not looked into a fix yet, so if anyone wants to chime in, please do.

It's an open window at speed. It's going to whistle. The 'fix' is to close it.

Not really. Just about every car I've owned had a sunroof with a tilt feature and none whistled the way that the G42 does. It's just poor design.

My 230xi coupe has a sun roof but I've never used it/opened it. I might one of these days just to see how it works. (Bought the car last Dec 1 and weather has not been suitable for sun roof use.)

With other cars I used the sun roof a bit but found just not practical at anything above maybe 45mph. Too much wind in the cabin. Too much wind noise. And I loathe sitting in direct sun.

In your case while the source of the whistling is probably the sun roof
with the noise present see if pushing on the side glass makes any difference.

If pushing on the driver side glass and a helper to push on the passenger side glass doesn't affect the noise -- if it does the side glass window may need some adjustment to seal better -- if you can partially open the roof/partially tilt it see if this affects the noise.
