I posted this in another thread, but it deserves to be in a more searchable thread for future reference.
There's a vacuum controlled butterfly valve on the left tailpipe, to reduce startup noise, and limit emissions when the car is stopped. You simply undo the small rubber hose and jam a golf tee in it, and tiewrap the hose up. It gives you a bit meaner growl at low speeds, but since the butterfly valve is normally open at speed, there's no additional noise. |

I don't think this has any effect on startup noise. Butterfly is opened when the car is shut, and when you start the car, it doesn't close instantly, so the car is pretty loud on startup, with Tee mod or not.

There is also a plug in the trunk (gotta peel back the carpeting a little i think) that you can just disconnect and you don't have to worry about the golf tee or ball-bearing trick.

This is the excerpt from the thread:
"I just disconnected the electrical actuator that opens up the vacuum line to close the solenoid. This actuator is located right under the driver side taillight from inside. To get to it all you have to do is pop open the little cover in the trunk behind the taillight and you'll see the electrical connection on the bottom right side of the panel. There is a vacuum line coming into the solenoid and another one exiting before passing down through the trunk floor." They also said that it stores an error code (not a cel) in the ecu that a dealer tech could read/see, but who knows if he would care or not. The error code is not limp mode or a cel, no decrease in performance, its just a logged code because the solenoid is disconnected. -Chris

Sorry....stupid question.
So you just pop out that black 4 wire connector that shows in the pic, right?

I think the ball-bearing method will be my choice

so you pull the tube off, and put a golf tee in? that seems like something could go wrong seems like a lot of lose ends left. like the place it was plugged in and wnt it be flopping around now? what if the golf tee falls out?

Keep in mind, you don't just cap the line with a golf tee. You also have to cap where the line originally connected too (unless you use a ball bearing and reattach the line).

Ok, probably going to embarrass myself here, but, won't the golf tee char, roast, incinerate, over time? :iono:After all, the exhaust is kinda' hot.:iono:

The tee itself is connected to a vacuum line, not to the exhaust piping.

I did It!
I did this mod today!! I crawled under the car near the muffler and there it was. I pulled the hose out and covered the valve deal with a vacuum plug, then I took a screw and screwed it into the hose. The only problem was I had nowhere to put the hose once I screwed it ( LOL!! ) OK all joking aside.
I looked up to see where the tubing was coming from and found a hole I could feed it thru. I'm thinking it's not as secure as I would like it, but tomorrow I will get back under the car to see if it came loose and see if there is another way to keep the hose from Flopping.
